I just moved to my new home last week and had been feeling very overwhelmed with tackling or shall I say attempting to tackle the lawn work. So I went on line and found Michael. Within minutes of seeking help, Michael was in touch. As schedules worked he was actually here within a day. I believe I read in a previous review that they were met with Michael's warm smile and kind handshake...we reviewed what should be done. I left much to him as I am not so great about lawn care! Michaels employee, Marion, is a man of few words but a master of much! I am thrilled with how the great everything looks. They mowed, trimmed nasty trees and weeds. I have hired him to be my "go to" lawn professional. I am looking forward to other projects that we will work on in the weeks and months to come. He is also going to be changing some of my fencing for my 3 dogs. I know this has been a lengthy review but I can not stress how comfortable I feel about Wilson's Lawn Care. Thank you Michael and Marion ~ you helped make my new home look sooooooooo much better!

I am really pleased with the work done by Fain Property Maintenance. Joel went above and beyond what I expected of him. He noticed over grown bushes behind my shed and fence that he cut back and cleared. Besides trimming overgrown schrubs, he transplanted one that needed more space, pulled up three dead Azaelas, deadheading the all plants affected by the cold temperatures, and shaped my Magnolias into a tree form. He picked up all the trimmings (there were a lot) and hauled them away. After putting down new pine straw and dark brown mulch, my yard has been transformed into a beautiful garden. Thank you Joel! I highly recommend him.

We called Budget Cuts Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping for a lawn cut for a home on the market for sale. After arriving at the home the owner, David Bradshaw immediately called and informed us of the former caretaker's neglect of the yard. In one day this home went from the worst lawn on the block to an amazing yard transformation. Grass cut, trees pruned, shrubs trimmed, flower beds completely reworked, and new mulch added. The owner has a habit of being a perfectionist. He prides himself in offering exceptional service being meticulous with every detail. If you want a professional job for your yard this is the company you want to call!

First let me start by saying I will be using Southern Superior again in the future. I am glad that they sent me a link to thumbtack so that I could give a public review on them. During site prep which another company did it was not realize that there was a tree too close to our Edition for the soffit to fit. They came up with a way to shorten the soffit and tie things in to where it still looked good. I also had mentioned to them that I was going to put in some new exterior door casings, they quoted me a price on the spot which was extremely reasonable and did the work the same day. We are very happy with our new room. They even found us a painter that did an exceptional job at a fair price.

Bert Ecle goes above and beyond and is very meticulous with every palm tree that he did in our yard and trust me...we have a lot of palm trees. He came early and stayed until the sun went down. We are now wanting him to other projects in our yard.

I needed help with heavy yard work, trimming shrubs, removal of junk trees, weeding, cutting up magnolia leaves and re-mulching flower beds. I have a small yard, but lots of areas with specialized needs. Brandon came over, did a walk through, gave me a great price and did the work while I was out of town. I am so pleased with the work. Brandon and Tri-State absolutely exceeded my expectations. I will continue to use Tri-State Landscaping LLC for all my yard projects.

The young men were polite kind hard workers. They did an excellent job trimming my azaleas bushes even cutting out oak tree branches that were growing up in the shurbs. After completing the work no branches, leaves, or twigs were left on ground. I highly recommend The Landscape Solution!

Wolff lawn care did an excellent job on my yard. The weeds and overgrown palm trees were starting to look more like a overgrown forest. I almost don't recognize my yard now. I highly recommend Wolff lawn care.

I wanted someone to love our lawn and interviewed several candidates on-scene to observe their behavior with the yard. The last one I interviewed was Jason. He checked everything--crawling around bushes and grasses and weeds and trees and deciphering an issue with our sprinkler system get the idea. The others were nice, but I hired Jason on the spot at the end of the discussion. He's prompt, diligent, smart about the greenery...and yes--he loves our yard. It's been a long time since someone's done that... So glad I hired Jason.

After all of this work was done for a reasonable price i then had him pressure wash my house. When it was all said & done i had my yard & house looking great. I paid $230.00 to have yard mowed, weedeat & all grass on sidewalks porches & driveway cleaned off. Had weeds pulled from my garden. Last i had my house pressure washed. It looks great. Willow Landscaping has been maintaining my yard for over 20 years! Steve not only mows & edges my lawn; but, he handles all my landscaping needs. Steve prunes the trees, cleans out and renews the flower beds with pine straw. And, when a storm is heading our way, Steve tries to ensure the lawn is freshly mowed - in case it cannot be mowed for a few days - week. I lost a small dogwood tree to a storm and he had already taken care of that before I called to notify him a couple days later (we have a long standing agreement). I know I can go off on vacation and my lawn will never look neglected. Steve is a good man who stands by his work and I have highly recommend him to my friends and associates over these many years.

I cut lawns, do landscaping, cut trees, and trim shrubs. I work on smaller jobs that bigger landscapers turn down.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
