Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a passion for what I do. I have wanted to work with animals since I can remember. I also have the experience medically with animals, and I am working on becoming a vet. With my tech background it gives me the chance to be able to offer services that other sitters can not since I am able to do and administer certain medical needs. I think what I love the most about my job is the fact that I am able to meet tons of new people and their loved ones. I love being able to provide a safe place for people to leave their babies with so they are able to go out of town and not have to worry.

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I went out to visit Bree to see if her set up met our needs. I give one start only because Bree is very nice. However, I couldn't get out of her house fast enough. It reminds me of hoarders homes like are seen on tv shows. Mountains of junk were piled EVERYWHERE; the kitchen counters had so much piled on them you couldn't see a surface larger than the palm of your hand. This is not just about messiness; everything was truly filthy. The dining room she keeps her visiting dogs in is filled with furniture and more junk on all the surfaces and underneath, on the floors, including plugged in electrical cords. It's not a safe environment for any dog, but certainly not for a young one that still chews. I'm sorry Bree, but cleanliness is a must for someone in business who brings clients into their homes. You claim to be a vet tech; I expect you to know what's necessary for a safe environment for dogs based on that credential but that's not what you offer. Shame on thumbtack for referring me to Bree. Apparently they simply scan ads and compile them. I can do that myself. I was looking for a referral service that has done some level of screening. They obviously do not. I give thumbtack a minus 5 stars for wasting an hour of my time and my gas for the 36 mile round trip. I will not use them again and will be sure to tell my friends as well.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Basically my pricing is not to confuse anyone. It is because with what I do I can either travel a mile or 40 miles to do visits. Also, if there is one small dog in my house that is much different then 3 big dogs. This is because I can only have a certain amount of dogs or cats at a time and therefore if I have 3 in one family I may not be able to take in any other clients.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You want to look for someone who is compassionate for animals and really care about their well being. Someone who will ask about your pet and what they like and are used to in their own home when you are home. This is because a good pet sitter will want them to feel as "at home" as possible. We want the animal to not feel uneasy and we want them to have fun while they are with us in our care. You also want someone who has a general background with animals so this way they have some knowledge if something goes wrong so they know what to do and do it quickly. Also this way they can give your pets medications if you need them administered while in the care of a pet sitter.
