I was traveling through Phoenix, stuck in a hotel with an overheating computer. When I talked to Sam by telephone, he thought through the problem with me and offered simple ideas that I could try on my own to see whether they resolved the problem.... and they did! He was super nice, very practical, and enormously helpful.
I called because I was getting an error message that one of the cooling fans in my computer was not working or was not working well enough. I thought "I need a new fan," and reached out asking for that help.
After Sam learned that I was passing through town on a business trip and that there was no way we could get the parts in time, he asked, "Do you have any fan activity at all?" When I said, "yes," he said, "Why don't you try either with a vacuum cleaner or a little forced air (you can buy a can of that locally) to clear out the vent. Maybe there's dust blocking the vent. Try that and maybe your problem will be solved. If it isn't then I can come and try cleaning out the computer. If that doesn't fix it, then you'll need to look at the fan." He also suggested some other things I could do. VERY practical and low key. As it turned out, blowing out the vent solved the problem.
Thank you, Sam!
