Adrian is easy to work with and has a great attitude. I had a door rubbing new tile and not closing. He gave options, his opinion on best and most reasonable fix and made sure it was done right. I highly recommend him.

Ronnie showed up on time, was knowledgeable and efficient about fixing the problems we presented: installation of a shower fixture that required tile drilling, replacing rollers on a shower door, and repairing a bad electrical outlet. Will definitely be calling him in the future!

I didn’t think there was much hope for my leaky, moldy outdated ceramic tile shower with some god-awful floor base that stained so bad. I have a decent house but this shower area was a nightmare. Well I really lucked out getting Ivan via Thumbtack. I heartily recommend him for any drywall, tile and grout creation you might want. He’s an absolute craftsman. He doesn’t just repair, he creates a new design look. Every time I look at my new shower area I am amazed and pleased to find everything is square and plumb, the tiles are cut and installed perfectly and the tile and grout color enhances the new chrome and glass door he picked out. As a matter of fact he picked out everything on account of I have no design sense and, I’m told, I may as well be color blind as to try to pick out something tasteful. No matter to Ivan. Since he knows what he is doing he picked out everything perfectly. He also took time to prepare all the surfaces and treat the area against mold before installing new waterproof drywall and a modern floor and drain area. The he artistically created a tile enclosure like no other I’ve see. It’s not that he increased the value of my home much more than I paid him; it’s not that he worked fast but careful and it's not the very fair price he gave me. It’s because I feel happily amazed when I enter the room and see his craftsmanship. That peace of mind hardly compares with the little he charged me compared to the result I got back. Bonus: He has a pleasing professional personality that is extremely rare in contractors these days. You can trust him to listen to you and still create a masterpiece.

I had approx 1400sqft of wood look ceramic tile installed. The crew did the actual install in 4 days. Blew me away how fast they completed the job. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Could not be happier with the outcome. Always look for licensed contractors!!

We were looking for someone to not only remove all existing flooring and install new porcelain tile throughout our 2,900 square foot house, but we also wanted someone that could coordinate other projects. We want to fill in our sunken living room, add electrical outlets & fixtures, and install wainscoting in our bedroom. Debra coordinated all of these projects, including moving all of our furniture out of the house. Debra and her team were all great to work with and they completed the job in just 13 work days and only a few days passed the estimated date. The quality of the work performed was top notch and we were completely satisfied. We are happy to recommend Floor Covering International.

Gil Sierra Tile did an amazing job installing our home’s tile. Gil provided us guidance on how to successfully remove existing tile and carpet before installation. He came out quickly to assess the property and provided an honest quote. We selected a large wood-plank style tile for the entire home. He was very flexible with scheduling since we are in the middle of a remodel. The crew who installed the tile prepped the concrete floors and doors to ensure easy clean placement of the tile. The worksite was kept clean and tidy throughout the process. The crew was very nice and did an excellent job of laying the tile and grouting. I would recommend this company to anyone.

Darrell did an excellent job hanging pictures frames and art on the walls in my recently renovated home. The walls that bordered the exterior were masonry so it was beyond my skill set. He was on-time, professional, and made sure I was happy with the work asking whenever he had a question to make sure it was done right. I’d definitely hire him again!

The company responded immediately to my request for an estimate and was able to meet my time/dollar expectations. There was some confusion regarding supplies when the installer arrived, but Juan responded very quickly to my questions and concerns. The installer did a very nice job with the tile installation, but was somewhat messy in my house and left cigarette butts in my yard.

I purchased a seven year old house needing some updates. I was given SOS Contractings phone number from another tile setter, who said that they did top quality work and were very professional. This turned out to be very true. Not only did SOS Contracting do an outstanding job of installing the tile, but provided excellent help at the beginning of the project. They provided guidance on room prep, layout, and helped advise us tile options to fit my budget - choices that really helped me save in the long run. SOS Contracting certainly has the skill and experience installing all types of jobs, from high end to budget conscious (looking at their portfolio on Facebook) and provided great advice to fit my remodeling needs. They use more of a traditional tiling approach vs. some of the 'quick and cheap' methods other use. As a homeowner, I am of the philosophy that paying for quality up front is always the better choice. So while I invested a bit more in labor, I saved overall given their design help and the higher quality product we got. SOS Contracting was very clean with the jobsite and always came when they said they would. Their communication was straight, with nothing being 'misunderstood' (a professional area that too many contractors miss the boat on). SOS Contracting are really great people, very friendly. I receive a lot of compliments on the finished product. I would 100% endorse SOS Contracting! :)

Jed did a number of jobs at my house and I would highly recommend him, his work is quality at a fair price. Jed ran a new dedicated circuit from the electrical panel to various outlets and ceiling fans he installed. He installed a whole house attic fan in the garage w/thermostat and on/off switch (that setup is amazing, cools the garage off big time in the summer and clears the attic of hot air) this has saved me money and the garage is Much cooler. Jed also replaced the exterior door from the garage and installed tiles in a couple of my rooms. Jed will not disappoint and I hope this helps anyone looking for quality work at a fair price.

After an initial misunderstanding about the extent of the work required, Mike provided an excellent repair to the loose tiles above our fireplace. He accommodated our tight timelines. The results were very good and blended in with the remaining tiles.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
