Our previous lawn care provider just vanished...we needed someone to start soon as it had been 5 weeks since the last service. We hired Alex for routine lawn maintenance. He was professional, prompt and very clear with what he could and could not do. I liked that he was able to communicate his concerns to me instead of brushing the matters off. I would recommend him.

Chris and Martin were amazing. They arrived the same day I called to give me a quote and we're able to start work the next day. I had very overgrown 15 ft. Tall oleander and a neighhbor's tree that needed extra care and they made my yard look amazing. I will definitely have them back to lay my rocks next month. Very professional and courteous.

Brett is a professional who clearly has a passion for what he does: He trims trees and he loves doing it. He says that it's sort of like his therapy. He arrived a few minutes early to get a good look at the tree. He and I talked about what I was looking for and he suggested a plan based upon his knowledge of how trees grow. He did an outstanding, artful job. He trimmed in an intelligent manner, allowing for future growth that will bring out the beauty of the tree in the years ahead. (Not a butcher job.) He cleaned up the trimmed limbs, used a blower and left things better than when he started. Great work ethic. Next year, I'll have him back to continue shaping the tree. Einboden & Sons will not be the least or most expensive bid on your quest to find a tree trimmer. But with them, you get a great value for money well-spent. Thank you, Brett.

Devon was great. He showed up on time and we ran into some trouble hanging the lights and some work had to be redone. He didn’t seem upset at all at having to do a do-over. I would definitely call him again for any tree work we needed done.

Danny never showed up to come trim my trees & tree removal service after agreed upon day & time... we rescheduled a different day and time to accomodate him and he still didnt show up. Will not recommend, stay away from him. This is my only 1 star rating and the worse experience I've ever had. Waited 2 days for him when I could have had it done sooner.

After years of trying to grow grass and then putting up with weeds growing, sprinkler lines failing and water usage we decided to make our area a planter. Same problem. Water, weeds, care. I was recommended Roberto thru a client of mine to see about converting to "fake grass". Couldn't be happier. Prices was right, 2 days for instal and little or no maintenance. Still as green as the day in was installed. The kids love it for things kids do. Even with medium traffic, it holds up nice. I have other clients that are looking to save $$ and labor in keeping their grassy areas looking nice year around. Synthetic grass is the way to go. Just sit back and let the green shine summer, winter, fall and spring. Thank you for a job well done. Oasis Apartments.

I initially hired Alex to remove one tree and at the last minute he was able to accommodate me and also remove two branches leaning on my roof. From start to finish he was very responsive, and he completed the work quickly without sacrificing quality. To top it off, the price was unbeatable. I will definitely hire him again.

At the risk of sounding like all the other glowing reviews....Oscar is simply the best! He fit our project in his busy schedule. He answers all of your questions, doesn’t try to talk you into work you were not considering and his work is quick and affordable. I would never think of using another pro for any lawn, landscaping or tree care.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
