FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Most custom work I do outside of traditional scrapbooking is generally 15.00/hr as it is hard to estimate how much time each photo or project will require. For example, if you want a photo restored, it depends on if it's a few scratches which would only involve scanning a photo in and doing the repairs versus having part of a photo missing or damaged by water and having to literally recreate those parts digitally by cloning other parts of the photo. I can give an estimate though. The last time I had ONE photo repaired at a photo center it cost me 25.00. I can do just as good a job for way less money!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started scrapbooking in highschool (early 70's) and have always loved it as I am naturally creative and it is an outlet for me. I've grown with the market and used a lot of products so I've gained speed and knowledge about what looks good and doesn't. With the merge into the digital market, I've experimented with digital software and fallen in love with the expanded opportunities it offers in the area of photo solutions.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When hiring someone to do custom work for you, don't rely solely on the cost of having the work done, view samples of their work. Someone might know a lot about scrapbooking and even have a lot of experience but the quality of their work will vary greatly.
