I interviewed many attorneys for my case, but all of them seemed to only be interested in how I would be paying them. I didn't feel any of the other attorneys even had an interest in getting on the phone with me unless I feigned interest in hiring them. Matt was the only attorney who contacted me directly, took the time to go over details of my case and overall put me immediately at ease. He gave me a number where I could, and have- Texted or called day or night, and Matt always responds immediately. Matt was not the least expensive attorney I could have hired, and he wasn't the most expensive...But his attention to detail, his knowledge in the criminal defense world is something that is inherently Matt. If he wanted to, he could easily demand a blank check fee schedule, as he is worth every penny, but instead he offers a flat rate fee, with no surprises or hidden costs. I can now say in the two months he has been my attorney, I feel safe and protected from possible prosecution. I am confident Matt will see me safely thru this dark side of my life. I will find out tomorrow how this journey will proceed, but I know with Matt standing beside me I am prepared to stand up and fight for myself, and not be strong armed into a plea deal or worse just because I have previous criminal history. Do yourself a favor, call and speak with Matt right away! He will not disappoint. By the way, Matt is not only my attorney, I now call him a friend. This is the attorney you want!

I highly recommend Dana Hogle as a criminal law attorney – he is a genius in the courthouse. He has a great relationship with many of the other lawyers, judges, and courthouse workers. Dana represented me earlier this year and I was extremely impressed with him. He handled my case very professionally – was straight forward and honest with his game plane, while being respectful and understanding. As a result, my case was DISMISSED!! Thanks again we need more juvenile defense attorneys like you.

Shane responded promptly to text messages and a phone call that I made to him. He was able to come to my home in Gilbert on a same day appointment and the process lasted fifteen minutes at most. I found the price to be reasonable and affordable, especially with such little notice. I would recommend Shane/S & S Mobile Notary Services for your notary needs in the valley. I had a car title notarized in preparation for sale.

Stuart was absolutely amazing! He gave me wonderful advice on how to handle my case and was so honest and real with me. Sometimes you listen to these attorneys and they just want to talk and talk and not listen and I will say that Stuart listened to me and what I had to say and then gave me advice on how to proceed. I appreciate that and I am so excited to hire him to help me with my case.

Recommendation to seek Anthony Clark, Esquire for legal services: I originally sought an Attorney to seek advisement in making my decision to file bankruptcy. I contacted my brother October 9, 2013 who is a Criminal Court Judge in the Midwest for a recommendation for a well respected Attorney. He redirected me to highly respected bankruptcy Attorney in that state who recommended I contact Anthony Clark. I had many conversations with Anthony in between October of 2013 and the time that I retained his services on February 28, 2015. He provided a considerable amount of information (without any billing) educating me on the bankruptcy process and alternative options if I chose not to file bankruptcy. I had participated in a money management program but I realized that I was trying to meet an insurmountable challenge that I could not overcome myself, and from my conversations with Anthony I decided to file Chapter 13 on March 12, 2015. I have always felt comfortable talking to Anthony and he has provided insight into life after bankruptcy as well. I had spoken to a few other Attorneys before making a decision about who I would want to represent me, and I chose Anthony Clark as he is very comfortable to talk to and does not act in a superior manner as the other Attorneys I had spoken to previously. Filing bankruptcy is a traumatic experience for anyone, and Anthony has helped me view this transition in my life with a positive and hopeful attitude toward meeting my financial goals in the future. I highly recommend his services. Pat (last name with held for privacy)

I spoke with multiple attorneys before hiring Josh. He was the only attorney who seemed like he actually cared about my case rather than making me feel bad and being condescending. Josh always made an effort to contact me about my case and if I ever had a question he either texted me or called me back. Most importantly he was an awesome attorney. He even met me over the weekend at his office since I did not have time during the week to meet. He definitely goes above and beyond for his clients. I don’t usually write many reviews but given that my experience throughout this process with Josh was professional and exceeded my expectations, I had to.

Katherine is a very good listener and an excellent advisor. She took the time to listen thoroughly and came up with a plan of action expeditiously. If you are looking for someone that is assertive and can make her arguments clear and effective, then she is an attorney you would like to retain. What was surprising to me, is she thinks well ahead and is quick-witted and brilliant. I found her to be very creative, and she is willing to work within your budget. She is also very down-to-earth. She will fight for what is right and is easily accessible and very encouraging. Do your self a favor and pay her a visit in your time of need and you will find her to be very comforting, knowledgeable with an extremely strong work ethic.

The Neeley Law Firm is extremely professional and helpful. They understand how stressful bankruptcy can be and are there to guide you and support you through the whole process. I couldn't have done it without the help of Telina, my paralegal. Everything is going smooth....thanks to Telina, and my lawyer Dane. The next step in my process, will be my 341 meeting....in a few weeks.

Everything worked out beautifully between the attorney and I. She helped me out tremendously and guided me every step of the way. I can't think of anything I that she could have done to improve the service she provided for me. I thank her professionalism. I am speaking about my attorney of Kathy and Michael Pittman. They work great as a team.

I had several friends who lost parents over the past few months so I decided I had better finally get around to doing my own Will, just in case something were to happen. I wasn't sure where to turn so I Googled it and ended up here on Thumbtack. I spoke with two document preparers to that submitted quotes because their prices were really affordable but I just wasn't comfortable with them. I don't know what it was but some of their answers to questions seemed superficial, as if they didn't really understand the law behind it. One document prep person was better than they other but I just felt uneasy about using them to prepare my Will. I decided to give an attorney a try and chose Woods Law Group based upon the other reviews here and other places online. My experience with Trent Woods was great. When I asked questions he took the time to answer them in a great detail and really seemed to know and understand the law. He explained the pros and cons of different choices and I felt so comfortable with the decisions I made. In the end, I did a trust and a will and feel really good about that. Yes, Woods Law cost me more than the document preparers, but it was money well spent. I am confident in my plan and the document. Best of all, I have a good understanding of how my plan will work and feel peace knowing that I am really prepared if something were to happen to me. I just didn't get that feeling with the two document preparers (even though one was a paralegal). I would highly recommend people at least talk with a Trent Woods to see the difference.

I was very impressed with Mr. Schoaf about an amended trust; he spent much time explaining pros and cons. I couldn't afford the cost and found another attorney however within my budget.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
