I hired Jeff to paint my house. He was professional and completed the job quickly, and accurately. His price was very competitive with other quotes I received. He power washed the house and patched cracks in the stucco before painting. Overall, my house looks much better and for the price, was worth it. Only downside was some continued confusion over the agreed upon price. However, Jeff honored his original quote and also fixed some deteriorating wood fascia-board along my porch roof for $50 extra. I would hire again for another repaint in a few years as needed.

Adrian was the best decision I've made in a long while. After many experiences with handymen and painters who cancel or come late or rush through work, Adrian arrived on time after texting me to say he was on his way; he did all of the work carefully and completely, and then helped me with three small items even after I had already paid him. But all of that is important, but pales in significance that my dog adored him. Sat next to him on each project, licked his face when he finished a job, and I could hear Adrian asking him to read the directions he was sitting on.... the fact that he's a Vet is one reason I chose Adrian; the way he acted and his skill are why I've asked him to return for other projects.

Dave and his crew were quick efficient and did a great job doing a variety of tasks including painting, drywall repair and installing new baseboards. We’re very happy with the work and are actually booking them again to do our exterior.

From the first moment, I was impressed by Nic! He and his team were completely professional and clearly focused on making sure my wife and I were satisfied. He did all that I would expect and many small tasks I thought I would have to do after the painters left. I am a cost conscious consumer and was very satisfied by the price and absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work done by Finesse Painting. I would recommend these guys to anyone!!

Chuparosa Painting is an excellent company. We have a new custom home, and the exterior painting did have some challenges --- stucco and wood combination, and many windows, including at very high level. Chuparosa painting, George Stewart, and his team did an excellent job. I can recommend the company without hesitation.

I had gotten myself into a mess with a DIY project and finally gave in and decided to hire professionals. I spoke to a couple of painters but when I met Daniel McGrew of Quality Painting I was sold. He understood the issues I had had and was very willing and able to help me resolve the problems I had even though it meant starting over and doing it right. I was thrilled with his estimate and they pointed out that the dry wallers had not done such a super job in the kitchen so they asked me if I wanted that resolved too and Greg gave me a very reasonable quote to make the kitchen ceiling much better too. I just got home to see the finished result and I couldn’t be happier. It all looks fantastic and I can finally start putting things back where they belong and pull this place together. And they left my home in immaculate condition. I recommend Quality Painting very highly. Daniel and Greg McGrew were wonderful.

Our home was terribly weathered and in need of stucco repair and wood refurbishing. Alan was so genuine and interested in what we wanted for our home from our first meeting. The entire crew was professional, courteous, on-time and took the time to explain what they were doing and why. I am very pleased about the results and recommend them highly.

Amazing team workers. The job was suppose to take 2 days and they worked very hard to finish in one by working very long hours plus did some extras that I added on. I would hire them again for any paint/stucco work and would give their number out happily to family and friends. Thank you Luis and Gladys

Shift painted our entire exterior, repaired the stucco damage, cracks, and covered up a nasty old pink color from the previous homeowner. House looks great and we could not be happier. They delivered on their promised time frames, their crews were uniformed and professional- night and day when compared to my experience with other paint companies. These guys are real pros that care and it shows. I would recommend them to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
