Had businesses in Scottsdale 80's, Mobile, Al 90's, Manufacturer rep( spas, pool products etc..)on the 2000's. I grew up with a 50,000 gallon Shasta
swimming pool. My job of course. It was green more often than not, but it familiarized me with landscape, bather load, ages of bathers, filtration, motor size, plumbing and type and size of filter and how to best to apply these factors when treating the pool.

I studied chemical engineering for the first 2 years at A.S.U. (Eventually
B.S.A. in abnormal psychology).
So my knowledge of water chemistry is excellent. Alkalinity, Alkalinity, Alkalinity. I stress alkalinity because if it is maintained between the range 80 to 120,140 ppm, this will allow the chlorine eroding from the tablets or production of chlorine from the salt system to be free not combined!!
(This why you add acid for high alkalinity or baking soda if it's to low!)
To low it converts to an acid to high it becomes a base again.
I also stress filtration. It's very critical. You can kill all the contaminants in 10 minutes if it is not filtered out it your sanitizer will attach itself to the contaminant a and will never clear up.
Ph. is not important because It's governed or buffered by the correct alkalinity or ppm of sodium bicarbonate( also an electrolyte in the? Human body). A stable alkalify will keep your Ph. at 7.2 to 7.8 always! I never check ph. only alkalinity and free
chlorine.
No test strips always titrate. The strips color scheme is to similar that it becomes subjective. To much guess work drops are closer in accuracy.
So give us a try and remember it cost you nothing!
