Robert did an excellent job on the drywall project that I hired him for. The texturing matched perfectly. He offered advice on other projects I had going at the same time, and he really knew what he was talking about. Last but not least, he was a gentleman and a pleasure to have in my home.

I originally hired Ociel to do some cleanup on my yard so I could do sod installation... it ended up being a bigger project than I thought so I asked Ociel if he could do the installation. It took a while because I didn't need very much sod for my small yard, and the home improvement stores kept being bought out by big companies, but we finally got some. He did a great job!! I was worried about it not taking root because of the heat but it looks so good. I will definitely be using Ociel in the future.

They did an excellent job patching drywall and painting it. They walked me through every step, helped pick out the paint, did extra little touch-ups and more. I would definitely call Mike again for any drywall work!

Master Bedroom upgrade. Michael came to see the project that I was considering and gave me an estimate, along with a hard copy the next day. I thought the estimate was very fair. I did drag my feet for a few weeks before I decided to go ahead with the project as it seemed daunting to me. Michael was very patient and didn’t pressure me at all. I chose the date and his crew was at my house on that day and work started with them removing the furniture from the room and replaced it when done. 1) Popcorn ceiling removed and ceiling plastered. They made quick work of it and it was not as messy or dusty as I worried about. The ceiling is now smooth and clean. I love having the popcorn gone. And so glad I decided to do so. 2) Bedroom, Closet and Bathroom walls & ceilings were all painted. The Bathroom had old wallpaper under prior paint. They removed this with lots of hard work and it turned out beautiful. 3) Old carpet removed and new hard wood flooring installed in bedroom and walk-in closet. I purchased a narrower type of hard wood flooring which did take longer to install then estimated; Michael stayed true to his quote! Blue Mountain Renovation proved to be honorable in word and deed. I could tell that everyone who worked for Michael had great respect and pride as it showed in the quality of their work. The room is gorgeous, the floor is amazingly. Like a work of art. The crew was meticulous with the install and always cleaned up their work area after each day.

To Whom it May Concern, Since 1994 I have had 2 occasions where I was able to employ and work with Jeremy. Both periods of employment were handled very nicely by Jeremy, in 1994 the work involved consisted mainly of dismantling and repacking 4ft. and 8ft. fluorescent light fixtures installed in 12ft. ceilings. Other aspects of the job consisted of some fork-lift work along with using a cutting torch used to cut steel beams. Another period during 2007 and 2008 Jeremy was hired to supervise a crew of 6 - 8 workmen renovating a 10,000 sq. ft. Building. Primarily the job consisted of removing the old wooden beams and replacing with newer steel structural material, also being responsible for insulating the new roof and installing galvanized roof decking. I have definitely experienced a pleasant working situation with Jeremy and would not mind employing Jeremy again.

I was referred ton Ron by the company "wegottaguy" to move an overhead lighting fixture. He promptly came out to give me an estimate. He was very professional, was quick to get the job scheduled, and charged me a very reasonable price. When the actual technicians came out to perform the work, they were also very professional and provided me with an alternate solution that not only saved me money but would look better than the previously planned installation. They got the job done quickly and cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend Ron and company for any electrical work.

Tom has done a kitchen counter replacement which involved removing the old counter, cutting down the bar-height portion and preparing the space for the installers of the new countertop. He moved electric outlets, repaired walls, is building a shelf in one of the walls and will install the new sink, faucet and garbage disposal. So far we are very happy with the work Tom has completed. He has kept the area as clean as possible while doing very dusty demolition work. He has been timely, helpful and trustworthy with everything so far. And his work is excellent.

Williams construction built a block wall, extended our porch with pavers, installed new gutters, 2 cisterns, and repaired a wrought iron gate. The price to do all of this work was very reasonable. Much less than another bid.

When Guillermo came over to give me an estimate for some leaking outside pipes, his price was very reasonable & he was ready to do the job right then. There was no reason to look any further for a plumber. He finished the job quickly & also gave me very reasonable estimates for putting some faucets around the outside of my house & putting in the plumbing necessary to install a washer & dryer in a few months. Thanks for everything, Guillermo!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
