I teach salsa boogaloo, a blending of salsa dance styles that is designed to make you look like you grew up dancing salsa. You will learn from a salsa tree, a system I designed similar to a family tree, where every move or movement is built on or layered on the previous move taught, and you learn at your own speed; there's no pressure.

There are several predominate types of salsa: Cuban L.A./on1 and New York/on2, and most of the these dancers can't dance with each other, and that can be awkward at times or worse yet, a train wreck. When you dance with a lady, you have to dance to the way she moves.

We are leaders, but in a sense, we follow her lead or style. Ladies, on the other hand, need to be adaptable on the dance floor because in general, guys have lousy leads, but you still want to look good out there.

My style and system will allow you to look so natural they won't know you took classes. Classes are on Mondays at 7:00 for Cuban and Tuesdays for basic L.A. at 7:30 at Absolute Rhythm Dance Studio, 4047 W. Glendale Ave. I also teach casino rueda classes and a performing dance group. Steve teaches a mix of LA style and Cuban style salsa. Most instructors in Phoenix will focus on one style of salsa (typically ballroom style LA on the "1") to th exclusion of all other styles. It wasn't until I met Steve that I realized that there were MANY different styles of salsa (like Cuban, Puerto Rican, and on the "1" and "2"). In his classes, you will learn how to lead, how to follow, and how to adjust your dance style to whomever you may find yourself dancing with. Its the difference between being stuck in one 'clique' of salsa and being able to dance with anyone you may happen to meet. Also, few other instructors do a decent job teaching latin motion - you'll dance much better once you add the Cuban into your dance style!
