Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: The Science of Hope Most training is done from the neck down and ignores the governing system of your entire body, your brain. Through applied functional neurology, I consider which part(s) of the brain are active during certain body movements. I use simple yet detailed body movements to fix "road blocks" in the brain which in turn fixes and/or enhances underperforming areas of the body. Training with me will be unlike anything you've done. I include vision and vestibular (inner ear) with my training. I also frequently assess and reassess your nervous system to make sure I'm giving you good exercises that help make you better rather than making you worse. Self-Defense / Combatives My Self-Defense/Combatives training is different from traditional martial arts or boxing or MMA. I won’t be teaching you how to fight, I’ll teach you how to win a violent encounter. It might sound like semantics, but it is different. If you want to go to a bar and get in a fight and beat somebody up, then find someone else to teach you. My classes cover the psychology of predators, the neurology of yourself in a fight/flight situation and the physical & mental skills required to win a violent encounter. I will teach you how to physically stop and/or neutralize the attacker. Don’t worry, I will teach you how to strike and knee and kick, etc., but it will look different compared to what you see on TV or the movies. Helping people become the better person they always wanted or knew they could be.

I approached Cyle for training and mentoring sessions in the neurologically based performance enhancement and personal training system he is schooled in. Cyle went above and beyond to assist me in not only working on my injured ankle, but helping me deal with the mental and emotional concerns that training would be painful or re-injure me. In the beginning, I could barely do a lunge pattern without cringing. Because pain-free reps are the only reps allowed in his training, Cyle scaled back all movement until I was able to develop the confidence to move into more athletic positions without a grimace on my face! In other words, easily and effortlessly. His combination of patience, knowledge, experience, hands-on coaching, and willingness to try new approaches to my movement problem (which was partly mental) eventually took me from tiny lunges into entire lunge matrixes that included multiple directions, angles and foot positions. It is interesting to note that much of the work Cyle did with me to alleviate pain, discomfort, stiffness and immobility, as well as fear, was not in my ankle. Visual (eye movements) and Vestibular (head movements) work was just as important in creating progress as precise movements of the injured ankle joint. Cyle explained this in easy to understand terms that made sense to me, although the actual neurological principles are relatively complicated to the uninitiated. All I cared about was that it worked. In addition, Cyle gave me breathing drills, opposing joint drills (wrist) and unilateral drills to correct some other imbalances that were inhibiting my performance, and therefore my range of motion and experience of pain. I actually have better balance and posture as a result. I can also hike again. (My original injury was a severe ankle sprain that took place on a hike.) The brain-based training was-without a doubt-faster, more efficient and more fun than any other training or rehab work I have done. Cyle was always prompt with emailing feedback and homework, as well as arriving on time for appointments and answering questions. He was very good at keeping in touch and following-up. I appreciate that very much. Some trainers I have either worked with or observed appear bored and disengaged. Cyle was just the opposite. I could tell he cared about me and in some ways, I think that sets the stage for healing and recovery when you are hurting. Thanks Cyle!

Cyle delivers a nuanced training session. I met Cyle in a different context (he supervised my installation at the Seattle Flower and Garden Show). I had no idea what Z training would be like but having trained as a Iyengar yoga teacher I was skeptical this series of movements would resonate for me. Z training is different in that you memorize the sequences that address your body and then do them throughout your day if you are busy ! I loved Cyle's touch, his voice, and his precision. I looked forward to our time together and still practice Z moves almost everyday. They compliment my daily yoga practice.

So appreciate the training from Cyle, as it’s opened my eyes to some of these scenarios and made me think about what I would do and how to react.
