Mason Wong says, "Right off the bet, Starfix was super responsive. I posted a job request on Yelp, I got a message from a manager within minutes. Manager (Sabi) was very detailed and gave me options for the appointment. They have many technicians so I was able to get a same day appointment. Once scheduled, I got text notification for the details of the appointment including the assigned technician with their pic! I can communicate with the assigned technician (Mike) from that point on, he texts 30mins prior to arrival. The technician updates me throughout the entire process, from diagnosis, estimate, to the actual repair and invoicing all very smooth and done electronically. The repair was for a refrigerator so kind of time sensitive since my tenant does not want her food to go spoiled. First day diagnosis done and then repaired the next day. I highly recommend their service!"See more

Kathryn P. says, "This was a great experience for having to have an appliance serviced. I contacted Bargain Busters Appliance service and repair via Thumbtack late on Sunday afternoon and Kirsten responded immediately. She scheduled for techs to come out the next day. Chris and Mike arrived Monday afternoon, they were very professional and personable. They fixed what I had contacted them for, but when we tested the dishwasher, we found that what I thought was the problem was not it, the actual drain motor was broken and that wasn't something we could test prior to connecting the drain hose. This was an older model dishwasher and the part alone wasn't worth buying to fix it, it was more economical to purchase a new appliance. Chris notified me that the owner has some scratch and dent models that he could sell to me. Paul contacted me the next day with some options, I selected one and they took care of the delivery, installation and removal the next day. This whole transaction was only three days!! Kirsten kept in contact with me and the new dishwasher is beautiful (no blemishes , scratches or dents visible) and it works great!! I would highly recommend this business, it was a successful transaction for me."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

In Arizona, a license generally isn't required for small appliance repair jobs that cost less than $1,000. You can check current requirements on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors website. It’s always good to do your own research and ask pros about their credentials to be sure.

The best time to repair small appliances is generally in mid to late fall. Intense heat and desert dust can compromise appliances' vents and internal components, so it makes sense to get them checked and serviced before the holidays when you'll use your appliances more than usual.

Phoenix's fine desert dust can work its way into small appliances, clogging motors and vents and potentially leading to overheating. Plus, the area's hard water frequently causes mineral buildup in coffee makers and kettles, shortening their lifespan. A professional can help diagnose and fix these common issues, often saving you the cost of buying a brand-new appliance.

Typical repairs include:

  • Power or electrical issues: Faulty cords, switches, or internal wiring that prevent the appliance from turning on.

  • Heating problems: Burned-out heating elements in items like toasters, coffee makers, or microwaves.

  • Motor or fan failures: Worn motors in blenders, mixers, or vacuum cleaners.

  • Clogs and buildup: Blockages in coffee makers, dishwashers, or ice makers caused by residue or mineral deposits.

  • Broken buttons or controls: Non-responsive keypads, dials, or control boards.

Addressing small appliance issues early can extend their lifespan and help avoid full replacement.

The cost of repairing your small appliance will vary depending on a variety of factors, including:

  • Appliance type and complexity: The cost can change depending on whether you need a microwave, blender, or vacuum cleaner repaired. More complex electronics or mechanics often mean a higher repair cost.

  • The extent of the damage: A simple fix, like replacing a fuse or a belt, will cost less than a major issue, such as a burnt-out motor or a faulty digital display.

  • Replacement parts: The price and availability of the parts needed for the repair play a big role. Common parts are usually affordable, but specialized or discontinued components can be more expensive and harder to find.

  • Warranty coverage: If your appliance is still under a manufacturer's or extended warranty, some or all of the repair costs may be covered. It's always a good idea to check your warranty status first.

  • Labor time: The amount of time a technician needs to diagnose the problem and perform the repair will affect the final price. Intricate repairs that require disassembling the entire appliance will take longer than straightforward fixes.

The fifty-fifty rule is a guideline for deciding between repairing or replacing an appliance. If the appliance is more than halfway through its lifespan and the repair cost is over fifty percent of a new one's price, it's often better to replace it.

It really depends on the appliance and what’s wrong with it. Simple fixes, like unclogging a coffee maker or tightening a handle, can be easy to do yourself. For more complex issues involving motors or electronics, it’s often best to call a professional to avoid causing more damage.

Good questions to ask a small appliance repair technician include:

  • Do you have experience repairing this specific brand and model?

  • How do you charge for your services — is it a flat fee or an hourly rate?

  • Is there a fee for the initial diagnosis, and does it apply toward the final repair cost?

  • Do you offer a warranty on your repair work and the parts you use?

  • What's the estimated timeline for completing the repair?

  • Will you be using new, original manufacturer parts for the repair?

Begin your search for the best appliance repair technicians in Phoenix by comparing local professionals online. This gives you quick and easy access to ratings, customer reviews and even photos of actual work done by appliance repair technicians in Phoenix. If available, look at the photos of appliances customers have posted so you can confirm if the pros have experience fixing refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens and more.

It also doesn’t hurt to research the pros’ experience and credentials. For example, you can ask the pros to send you a list of any licenses or certificates they have obtained. Or, visit the Arizona Registrar of Contractors website to see if your potential pros have a license.

Lastly, don’t hesitate to ask the pros to send you free estimates. Compare their quotes, and choose a technician who fits within your budget, has positive reviews and boasts high ratings.
