Mike L. says, "Starfix Appliance Repair did an outstanding job repairing my dryer. Their technician, Mike, was personable, professional, and extremely thorough. He replaced the belt and pulleys, and went above and beyond by tightening and correcting a few additional components inside the drum that were on the verge of failing. I truly appreciated his attention to detail and the care he took to make sure everything was solid before closing it up. It is clear they take pride in their work. I would absolutely hire Starfix again, and I would gladly request Mike specifically. That said, if their other technicians are even half as good, you really cannot go wrong choosing this company. Highly recommended."See more

Steve H. says, "A rep (and my apologies, given that it was a week ago, I forgot his name) was in touch with me immediately and came out the following day. He said it may be a known issue with LG fridges, and that I should look into the warranty for the part, but even with that, if the compressor was in fact the issue, it would not be cheap. Once he came out he looked at it and immediately noticed the compressor was getting super hot, and walked me through some options. I appreciated how open he was, as he mentioned that just getting a new fridge may be my best option, but should I want to continue with the repair they would be happy to do it. I went his advice, thank you again, and immediately went to get a new fridge. Should I need any appliance help in the future, they will be the first ones I contact."See more

Loss of suction, a burning smell, or a brush roll that stops spinning can point to more than a full bag. A professional may pinpoint whether your vacuum repair involves a clog, belt wear, or a motor issue, so you avoid replacing parts blindly.

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Arizona doesn't require a state license for vacuum repair services or many other kinds of business. Phoenix's regulations are similar. It’s always a good idea to do your own research from sources like the City of Phoenix official website to be sure before hiring.

The best time for vacuum repair in Phoenix is typically the spring, before the summer monsoon season starts. Dust storms can send fine particles into your home, which can clog your vacuum’s filters and strain its motor. Getting your machine serviced beforehand helps make sure it’s ready to handle the extra workload when you need it most.

Phoenix's desert dust, especially during monsoon season, can be tough on vacuum cleaners. These tiny particles can clog filters, overwork motors, and wear down internal components, causing a loss of suction. For desert properties with carpeting, professional vacuum repair is especially important to keep your machine working properly — and is often more cost-effective than buying a new one.

In many cases, it's cheaper to repair your vacuum than to buy a new one. This is especially true for high-end models or simple fixes like a clogged hose or broken belt. However, if the repair costs more than half the price of a new, similar vacuum, replacement is likely the more cost-effective choice. An experienced pro can usually help you decide whether a repair or replacement is the better option.

There are several factors that might impact the cost of this project, including:

  • The type of vacuum: Repairing a high-tech robotic vacuum with complex sensors can cost more than fixing a standard upright or canister model.

  • The nature of the problem: A simple fix, like clearing a clog or replacing a belt, will be less expensive than a major repair like replacing a burnt-out motor or a faulty circuit board.

  • Replacement parts needed: The price of parts varies widely, from a few dollars for a new filter to a much higher cost for a motor or battery pack.

  • Your vacuum’s warranty: If your vacuum is still under a manufacturer's or extended warranty, the repair costs may be partially or fully covered.

  • Labor and diagnostics: The technician’s hourly rate and the time it takes to find and fix the issue will affect the final bill.

Because vacuums are a common household item, you may find that some general appliance repair professionals can handle the job, while other issues might require a dedicated vacuum specialist.

You can typically expect an upright vacuum to last about five to 10 years, depending on how frequently you vacuum and how well you maintain it. Regularly cleaning filters, emptying the canister, and checking for clogs are simple steps that can help keep your vacuum working properly for longer. If you're having problems with yours, an experienced repair pro can likely help you determine if a repair is worth it.

Yes, you can often fix simple vacuum issues yourself. Common problems like clogs, dirty filters, or a tangled brush roll are usually straightforward DIY repairs. For more complex issues, such as a motor failure or an electrical problem, it’s best to consult a professional.

Some of the most common vacuum issues that require professional repairs include:

  • Loss of suction. This is often caused by a full bag or canister, clogged filters, or a blockage in the hose.

  • The brush roll won’t spin. A worn-out or broken belt is a frequent culprit, but it can also be due to tangled hair and debris or a problem with the brush motor.

  • The vacuum won't turn on. This could be as simple as a damaged power cord or a faulty power switch, or it might point to a more serious motor issue.

  • Unusual noises or smells. Rattling sounds can indicate a broken fan or an object stuck in the vacuum, while a burning smell often suggests a problem with the belt or motor.

  • Spitting out dirt. If your vacuum is pushing debris back onto the floor, it usually means the bag or canister is overflowing or there’s a clog preventing dirt from being collected properly.

Before hiring a vacuum repair pro, be sure to ask these questions:

  • Do you have experience with my vacuum’s specific brand and model?

  • Is there a fee for the initial diagnosis, and does it apply to the final repair cost?

  • Can you provide a detailed estimate before you begin any work?

  • What’s the estimated turnaround time for the repair?

  • Do you offer a warranty on your labor and any parts you install?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • What are your payment policies?

Asking these questions up front helps ensure there are no surprises.

Begin your search for the best appliance repair technicians in Phoenix by comparing local professionals online. This gives you quick and easy access to ratings, customer reviews and even photos of actual work done by appliance repair technicians in Phoenix. If available, look at the photos of appliances customers have posted so you can confirm if the pros have experience fixing refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens and more.

It also doesn’t hurt to research the pros’ experience and credentials. For example, you can ask the pros to send you a list of any licenses or certificates they have obtained. Or, visit the Arizona Registrar of Contractors website to see if your potential pros have a license.

Lastly, don’t hesitate to ask the pros to send you free estimates. Compare their quotes, and choose a technician who fits within your budget, has positive reviews and boasts high ratings.
