FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Teaching ESL got me into editing, and here's how: I worked part time at a university's writing lab, where students would come in to have their essays looked over by us (tutors, we were called). Doing this made me realize how much I enjoyed editing their papers, so I went to this same university to get a copy editing and proofreading certificate. I then started my own website which allowed me to edit freelance novels, resumes, etc.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would say, customers should "let go" a little and give the person they're hiring, whether me or someone else, the creative freedom to provide the best advice about their work. If the customer's book or other document needs serious revisions, it's not my job to do those but to best advise them on how fix the issues, and then when the book is finalized, submit the project to me again. Hire me to jazz up your social media, get you started there, or improve your LinkedIn profile. I am a person of words and want to help others like me out there, to get into the world via social media.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I've written two books, and am working on more to go with the series. Regarding editing, I edit novels, resumes, essays, and whatever NON-TECHNICAL documents people need editing on. If there's something I don't feel I'm capable of editing because the subject matter is too specialized, I'll tell you that upfront.
