As one friend put it to me awhile ago “pearls before swine”. This is how I would describe I Liq Chuan. This internal martial art is what I feel embodies the “secrets” of martial power and strength. It is unlike any other martial art I have experienced and I have experienced a lot ranging from combatives to aikido, to jujutsu to judo. This martial art helps one to focus on what’s going on inside you: proper mental state, structure, balance, relaxation and much, much more. The curriculum is simple, but has so much depth to it. It’s fantastic for health and self-defense. Sifu Ashe Higgs is a talented instructor and friend who I find to be very, very skilled, patient and generous with his knowledge. He is one of the best I Liq Chuan instructors in the system and is a personal disciple of Sam Chin, another fantastic teacher. If you want to experience a martial art that goes beyond kata and accumulating techniques, that expands your mind and martial abilities – this art is one to explore.

John offers a program called VIPER at USA Martial Arts. I'm going to try to put into words how it helped me. I used to have nightmares NIGHTLY for months on end. Every night without fail, the same thing of being raped, abused, attacked ect... I would try to stay awake as long as possible, just so I wouldn't have these nightmares. Needless to say I was to say a bit nervous, would be an understatement. So I listened to him and made the decision to take part in VIPER. Now I've heard stories about the "real life" scenarios...yep, I thought...great I'm gonna be the one curled up in the fetal position in the corner. Before each scenario, I was freaking out. Why you may ask...FEAR! But come to find out...it was something I learned was just "unwarranted fear". The lessons I learned and the skills I was given...there are no words. To be able to tell the difference between "true fear" & "unwarranted fear"...WOW! To hear that I AM WORTH SOMETHING! I AM WORTH FIGHTING FOR! I mean the lessons just kept coming, too many to talk about here. Not only were some of my greatest "fears" put to rest, or squashed. But I was able to take what I've learned, and share it with those I love. I was even able to see the "warning RED FLAGS" in on of my friends. She found herself in a situation, and when she started to share with me what was going on...ALL of my teachings & skills came flooding into my head. Bottom line here, not only did I benefit from taking VIPER, but I was able to save one of my friends from a bad situation. She ended up taking VIPER the next time around, and was able to pass it on to her family. So you see it's not just what you learn for yourself, but it's an amazing gift for you to pass on to others. I am so very grateful for John Nottingham, and his dedication to share safety with others. He truly cares about what he does, and it shows. To pour ones heart into something they believe in, is just what he does. I mean anyone can stand up and "teach" something, but it is a rare gift to "teach" the way John does. He does have a gift, and for him to share it with others...priceless. Thank you for having the heart, passion, desire to do what you do, and love sharing with others. Again I believe that EVERYONE should take VIPER! If not for yourself, then for the ones around you that you love.

I have been with the school since August of 2012, and have enjoyed class that I've attended. D'Antonoli Sensei is a very passionate teacher and dose everything he can to try and explain what he is teaching in terms that are at a persons level of understanding. the others students are always willing to help and and give encouragement. my original reason for join the school was that I wanted to get in better shape (which I have), but I have stayed for other reasons. some of the major reasons that I have stayed is for the less physical lesson that are taught, things like where the techniques came from and what their purpose was / is, the philosophy that come with japanese martial arts. one of the other major reason is the sense of family that the school has, everyone in the school is welcoming and kind.

After I spoke with david Schwartz on the phone today we set a time to meet in a few hours to actually talk to each other about my goals. Not only was david listening to everything I said but he actually understood what I was saying. It has been about 10 years since I stopped taking Martial Arts lessons because it seemed the instructors were more interested in my money than teaching me. David and I actually got on the mats and worked on a few basic moves that taught me more in one hour than I learned in month's from other instructors. If you give David a chance I think your search for the right instructor will be over. be open and honest with him and he will work at achieving all of your goals. Sincerely, Scott Singer
