After costs incurred after my mother suffered from cancer, I was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2014. Having no legal experiences up until that point, I contacted MyAZLawyers. (I should mention out of the gate that this website really doesn’t do them justice and looks sketchy—they need a better web developer!) At any rate, the office staff and the attorneys are professional, thorough, and really, really know their stuff. They are busy people—but they’re on your side from the beginning. It is an absolute pleasure working with this law firm all the way from the administrative staff, to the legal assistants, to the attorneys themselves. I truly never expected to be taken care and to have my case handled the way it was. Recently (going on two years since my case/discharge), I received a call (which I now know to be a scam) from an organization claiming I had defrauded a financial institution, committed breach of contract, and committed theft by deception –referring to a 2010 payday loan application online (I’ve never taken out a payday loan in my life). This organization assured me that my case was going to court and that I was going to be served and that a formal complaint had been filed. Terrified, I contacted my attorney (Morgan McCain)—and he not only put my mind at ease immediately—but actually ended up calling said company to gather information about the “pending litigation” and, in a beautifully professional manner, ended up indirectly proving to me that they were a scam and that the charges and debt they referenced were not legitimate at all. (Think end-of-your-life mentality for 24-48 hours transforming into almost crying-laughing, joy, and immeasurable relief listening to the exchange between ultra-savvy and professional lawyer and fraudulent/unethical company.) It was something they likely deal with daily, but to me it was nothing short of superman coming in to save the day. Even after my bankruptcy was discharged, to them I was still a client and they took care of me. If you have an issue, go see these folks. (Especially recommend Morgan McCain if you get any say in the matter.) James K 12/2/2016

I was worried that no attorney would be able to get me out of the legal probls I had. So, when I met with Mr. Hogle I was kinda just going through the motions. I was given hope after my consult and decided to hire this attorney, and I am so glad I did. My case was difficult and we overcame a lot of obstacles.

My ex and I never went to court to establish a parenting plan for our son. We were never married, so we never thought it would be necessary. Unfortunately, there were several instances when my son was at my ex’s house and the cops were called. Luckily nothing happened to my son, but my heart dropped at hearing about those encounters. I immediately looked for guidance and called MacLeod Peterson. Scott and Stuart offered me a free consultation to discuss my options. I appreciated their time and the options and decided to spend the money to make sure that my son would be with me more and a court order would support me. They represented me throughout the process and obtained the results we had discussed. My life, since the legal action, has been calmer and most importantly I have peace of mind when my son is not in my care and I get to spend more time with him. MacLeod Peterson is the place to look for legal help in a time of need.

Counsel Anthony Clark is truly a unique and professional attorney. His personal qualities and attention to his clients became very evident to me with my initial consultation over the phone with him. In fact, at the end of our initial phone conversation Counsel put to rest all of my initial worries and stress accompanied with having to file a Chapter 13 petition. I knew my legal matters were going to be in good hands with Counsel representing me with my case. The following are a few key points that distinguish Attorney Anthony Clark from his professional peers. Understanding and Patience: He actually takes the time to listen and grasp your situation and patiently responds to your questions and concerns. Clearly outlines the steps and procedures for a Chapter 13 Confirmation: The process and steps involved with a Chapter 13 petition are confusing and extremely difficult to comply with without a very experienced and knowledgeable Chapter 13 attorney. Counsel is in that elite group of Chapter 13 legal experts. He clearly explains the steps and potential hurdles in advance in order to obtain a petition confirmation. The Team Effort Approach: From the very beginning he let’s you know the filing process is a team effort. He will file all the necessary motions, anticipate any issues prior to them being addressed by the assigned trustee & make all the necessary calls. In return, he asks that you put in the same effort and comply with all of his requests and respond to all of his correspondences in a timely manner. Keeping you informed at all times: With all the steps and motions involved during the Chapter 13 petition process that takes a few months to confirm, Counsel always keeps you informed of the filing status. He promptly responds to your phone calls and e-mail correspondences. Appointments pre-scheduled are always kept on time and held during convenient times that accommodate your schedule. To say that I am very happy and grateful for Counsel’s outstanding legal representation would be an understatement. I would not hesitate to recommend him to my family and friends if they too find themselves in need of legal representation for a Chapter 13 filing. If you are in need of his specialized legal expertise rest assured that you and your family are in good legal hands if you hire Mr. Anthony Clark as your attorney. A. Cervantes Very Grateful Client

From the beginning of our discussions I found Jon to be very open and honest about our situation. He seemed genuinely concerned about my wife's circumstances and her recovery process. He assured us that he and his firm would take care of all the legal and financial aspects while we were instructed to focus on my wife's medical needs. We were kept informed of the progress of the claim and Jon and his staff were easily available to answer our questions. If I ever have another need for an attorney, my first call would be to Jon for advice.

I had estate documents that needed revising. I moved to another state, sold my old house and bought a new one and had some changes in relationships with family members. Trent Woods of Woods Law Group provided a free consultation and impressed me with his knowledge in this area and his reasonable fee. After consulting with me about the new arrangements and making many helpful suggestions, he revised my estate plan. He worked quickly and efficiently and was on time for all meetings. I would recommend him for anyone in need of estate planning or contemplating revisions to an existing estate plan.

From my first conversation with Jacque, I felt comfortable with her. Her compassion and empathy to my situation was evident from the beginning and her coaching/mentoring style fit with my personality. She was thorough and walked me through the process of filing for Chapter 13 and was great about providing options and various scenarios of what could happen. She helped me prepare for a very scary event in my life and I couldn't has asked for a better lawyer. Her knowledge of bankruptcy law and guidance was excellent. Jacque helped me be very prepared for my creditors meeting and provided me the support I needed to file for bankruptcy and always encouraged me that it will be fine and it was. Its the start of recovery from financial gloom and glad she was there for me. I know the next 5 years will be hard while I recover from this bankruptcy but glad to know she is there for me when I need her expertise and guidance, as well a little cheering up now and then!

I needed last minute and I mean last minute services to review documents. Devon responded right away and replied right away to my questions first thing in Monday morning. He was able to place me into his schedule that same day. I was able to not delay a short notice closing. I'm extremely satisfied with his review and needed an attorney to make sure there were no mistakes. Humans make mistakes and I recommend everyone to have an attorney like Devon to review legal documents before signing. I'm at peace to know all is well thanks to him making time for my last minute request.

My experience with Jilyane Acevedo, at Stromfors Law, was a "Breath of Fresh Air". I had worked with two other Attorneys on my extremely High Conflict Custody case. I recognized that I was not being represented by either of those Attorneys, in a manner that would lead to success. I was referred by a good friend, to Stromfors Law Office, and assured that I would not be disappointed. I scheduled a Consultation with Jilyane and was immediately impressed with her Responsiveness. She actually cared about my concerns. The Professionalism, Work Quality, and Punctuality came as a pleasant shock! Finally, I had an Attorney that promptly addressed my concerns, and I didn't have to worry about Court Documents being submitted accurately and on time. Jilyane was well prepared for Court, and it was evident! Yes, Attorney Fees are expensive, but the value of dollars spent at Stromfors Law Office were, over and above by at least double, the value of the other Attorneys, in who, I had previously placed my trust. I will be forever grateful that I followed my friends advice and contacted Stromfors Law Office.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
