Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to review my profile. Mathuse Design is a veteran owned design firm with more than 25 years of architectural design experience. Over my career I have designed a range of buildings from new homes, residential additions and renovations, retail stores as well as K-12 and higher education facilities. The last three years I have been a project manager for a regional agricultural business responsible for the construction of several large greenhouses and manufacturing facilities.
One of the unique benefits I offer is my experience working for the Maricopa County Planning and Development office reviewing residential plans for permitting. I understand the system and will be able to help you navigate through the permitting process and get your project under construction quickly.

matt designed our last remodel. from start to finish. The project couldn't have gone better. He was informative, professional, flexible in the process and knew what we were looking for. It was a really good experience all around. We will have Matt do every bit of work we can send his way. The plans were designed to fit the space exactly and his design of not only the floor plan but the finish materials and their layout not only were functional.but affordable and asthetically pleasing as well His design and finish ideas allowed us to complete a remarkable remodel. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The first question from potential clients is "how much will it cost". This can be tough to answer by email or over the phone. I typically need to see the property to gather the information I will need to provide an accurate proposal. Prior to provideing the proposal I will also reach out to your municiplitie to verify your zoning requirements and reseach the County Assessors page to verify their are no easements, washes, etc. that may restrict where and what you can design.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I thought I wanted to be a Civil Engineer. After three semesters of nothing but math, I was starting to rethink that direction. On one of the last days of my third semester of college, I took a walk through the architecture school and was amazed by all of the models and drawings in the display cases along the corridors. As I was standing there admiring the work, the Dean of the school passed by and asked if I would like him to take me on a tour of the Architecture Dept. After an hour of walking through the different labs and the Dean explaining the curriculum I knew what I wanted to do with my life and 25 years later I am still doing what I love.
What types of customers have you worked with?
For my early career I worked for an architectural firm that specialized in primary education and university work. I was part of a team that worked on multi-phase renovation and addition projects for several school districts as well as dormitories and lab work.
I have a great deal of experience with municipal building redesign and renovation for multiple governmental organizations including the VA and Army Corp of Engineers. I worked for several years for a small boutique architecture firm that specialized in multi-use buildings, historical restoration and sustainable design. My latest job was as a project manager for a large agricultural business based in Phoenix.
