Jeff Boyer Design is excellent! He stayed in constant communication and was very quick with the final product! The banner and posters looked better than I thought possible. If you need a Graphic Designer look no further! The only downside was the shipping costs. If you live close by, try to go pick up up the work. His prices were reasonable! Thanks, Jeff

Jen Chapman Creative – when it comes to creating logos, websites, and all other aspects of business branding and graphic design work, and facilitating a collaboratively responsive designer/client relationship throughout the process, Jen is the ne plus ultra…the BEST! At the outset of starting a business in early 2015, I extensively researched designers, both in the Phoenix area and out of state. The look and feel of Jen's own website, along with her impressive background/experience and the galleries of prior work provided therein, put her into the Top 5. After reaching out to this select group of designers, the list was narrowed to 3. The idea here was to hire multiple designers to run with my proposed logo ideas, knowing others were competing, with my company's website design project going to the logo design winner. Jen nailed it!! Her logo design options were clearly superior, and her process was similarly above the competition. We worked through several rounds of revisions to arrive at a logo exceeding my expectations (which were already high). Along the way, she earned my trust and respect. I've continued working with Jen throughout the past year, during which time she's efficiently and effectively handled every aspect of my company's graphic design needs, including, but not limited to, business cards, hang-tags, invoice, an alternative logo format implemented as a woven patch, brand images for screen-printing, stickers, pop-up tent for live sales events, and, most importantly, the website: www.MCAOvO.com Jen created two website design options (both of which were great), from which we selected and revised my preferred format. She thereafter assisted with selection of a developer to implement the design as a functional ecommerce site. After shopping the project to numerous developers for quotes, we ultimately selected Steve Tamulewicz at eCreations (whom Jen had worked with before, and highly recommended). Throughout the development process, Jen worked with Steve and his team at eCreations to coordinate the project, while simultaneously facilitating communication with me in terms of revisions, etc., to bring the website to life. Jen and Steve collectively did an amazing job, going above and beyond the call of duty to hit a "live site" deadline in conjunction with my company's initial sales event at McDowell Mountain Music Festival. My overall experience working with Jen throughout the past year has been beyond exceptional, and I will continue to utilize her for all graphic design needs as my business grows. Jen is supremely talented, and, from a personality perspective, is an absolute pleasure to work with and a genuinely good person. I have been blown away with the consistent high quality of her work product, and, without hesitation, wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone and everyone in the market for a designer. Bottom line – hire Jen, immediately if not sooner!!! If anyone would like more information, please feel free to reach out using the contact information on my business website.

Steffan was incredible! He listened closely to my thoughts and ideas and in the end created a logo for our residential real estate business that exceeded any and all of our expectations and beyond. Kind, courteous and extremely professional results. He was quick to make changes and tweaks to my many requests and he is definitely a true perfectionist. I am a true believer in the old saying, " You get what you pay for." When working with Steffan you get way more than you pay for. We have worked on building our brand for years and within a very short period of time, Steffan brought our brand to life and gave us a face and stronger presence in a super competitive marketplace! This year we have three new logo projects slated to be created and Steffan is our only and easy choice for a Graphic Design Artist. Thanks a Million Steffan. You're The Best!

These guys are absolutely top notch developers. My company just launched our completely revamped site and couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out. They took our old website with outdated graphics, fonts, etc., and transformed it into a modern and incredibly attractive site. Their team is a perfect mix of left and right brains. When we met with them to discuss the project, we were immediately impressed with how easy they are to communicate with...just real, down to earth, believable people that don't talk over your head with tech jargon. They listened and spent ample time understanding our products and message to make sure the site layout was appropriate. They pulled off some very tricky programming feats to get the site to do what we wanted, while not losing sight of the need for superb, modern aesthetics.

Having recently started my own business, one of the things that made me nervous was my logo design. I had my own ideas and worried about finding someone who would incorporate them well. From start to finish Ryan has been very proactive, quick to respond and gave me exactly what I asked for. He provided some great design options to choose from and responded immediately to direction to arrive at the final choice. It was a pleasure to work with Ryan. I strongly recommend his services.

I have worked with Gerry for almost 10 years now, initially as one of my full-time animators here at Home Run Pictures, then as a subcontractor when she moved to Phoenix. Gerry is energetic, likes a challenge and is willing to adjust until the result is perfect.

Rachel created my business logo for me. She was very thorough from the beginning. She was on top of communication and created my logo within a very short time frame, which was priceless to me. I am also very indecisive and she really helped me to decide on the right logo for me without pushing me toward a certain design. After she finished the logo she provided me with a “cheat sheet” in which contained the colors and fonts. This was a huge help when it came to getting a sign and decals done! Even the sign company was impressed. She has since helped me put together some promotional and business materials. I absolutely recommend using Rachel. I couldn't be any happier with all of the work she has done for me.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
