Andres and his crew did an excellent job on my wreck of a yard where crab crass had taken over, and I am very happy with the results. He sent a man ahead to cut the front yard, and Israel is a weapon of grass destruction! He trimmed the stuff expertly and quickly, and I almost drove past my house, as it looked so different! Andres and crew did some extra work, cutting off the mistletoe parasites that were harming the mesquite trees, and more, and of course raking and hauling it all away at no extra cost. I plan on hiring him back, and I fully recommend his service. Very affordable too!

Rick and his crew are top drawer quality. They did yard work on my property, including tree removal, trimming and shaping, weed and grass extraction, and a few small interior jobs. The work was completed in 3/4 of a day, much sooner than I expected. The work was very good quality. I noticed that the crew worked well together and seemed to genuinely want to do a great job. They were very respectful and courteous and I would definitely recommend this company. I hope to use Transformers Landscaping in the future,

Jesus and his crew were great! I had two tall and very overgrown trees (mesquite and palo verde), one which was touching electrical wires and the other hitting the roof. Jesus came over and gave me an estimate, explaining what he planned to do and why. Then, when he and his crew came to do the job, they did exactly that, with Jesus checking in with me a couple of times to make sure we were in agreement. I definitely recommend them for your tree service needs!

Arizona Arbors cut up and removed a large tree from my front yard that had been felled in a severe thunderstorm. They contacted me right away after I posted on Thumbtack and Blue came within a half hour to assess the damage and what the work would cost me. His crew was there at 5:30 AM the next morning as promised and did a fantastic job. I asked for the wood to be cut up for firewood and stacked in my back yard which they did with no complaints or extra charge. What really impressed me was when Blue first came to give the estimate he told me their #1 priority was to save trees and, if that were not possible, to remove them as safely and quickly as possible. The price was more than reasonable for the amount of work done. I wouldn't hesitate to hire this company for any of your tree care needs.

I am a 16 year AD military member on Davis-Monthan. I was searching for an alternative to 1-800-Got-Junk. I read there reviews and they where way to pricey. I gave this application a try and Mr. Walter Gonzalo replied immediately and gave me a solid quote. He offered me services in under 24 hours. His workers Mr. Philippe and Davey where professional and quick. I had a hassle free experience getting them both on the base. So if you are looking for junk pick up or landscaping and you have a budget like me please look towards this company! I wish I knew about them sooner. Once again, I received no run around and got an immediate quote. 100% satisfied customer.

Forrest and crew removed a 30 ft. canopy/15 in. dia. trunk mesquite tree from my front yard and ground the stump down. They took care in protecting my block wall/wrought iron and cacti. Punctual, meticulous, friendly, hard working. Very satisfied. Will definitely hire them again for my landscape needs.

Hired Az Custom Landscapes to add additional bricks to a brickwall fence. The contractor's skill was excellent and his job was perfect. The contractor even took the additional step to work from my neighbor's yard to ensure that the work was properly done. The price was affordable and I highly recommend this contractor. I plan to use him in the future. G.M.A.

Esteban trimmed two trees for my rental property a couple of months ago (I'm late in submitting a review!). He crowned the mesquite tree and cleaned up nicely. I was most impressed with the bottle brush tree in the back yard. This bad boy was at 50 feet tall and desperately needed a trim. He thinned it out at the top down toward the middle and it looks GREAT! We are no longer worried about it toppling over during the next storm. He gave me a great price, was prompt to get the job done on time and respectful of the tenants on the property. I strongly recommend Esteban for any tree trimming needs and I will definitely use his services again!

I was quite fortunate to have hired Ruben to do the moving-out cleaning for my 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms 1000 sq ft apartment at Springs at Continental Ranch. Ruben and his helper had done a very good job at cleaning the windows, vertical blinds, ceiling fans (qty 03), flooring, carpets and bedroom doors. Even the stubborn hard water stains on the bathtub, shower screens, kitchen & bathrooms sinks, toilet bowls, water taps were gone leaving a clean sparkling surface that look like new. I would seek their services again for future cleaning projects. -Thomas Cheong, Tucson, Arizona

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

      • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
      • Read online reviews of client experiences.
      • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
      • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
      • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
