It's all about quality, personality, and experience. The quality of a group can quickly be evaluated by performance videos, not just sound recordings, but live on site footage of recent performances. This is crucial when deciding to hire a group. Personality is also a big part of performing. A musician can add a positive upbeat vibe to an event by the attitude and persona they have on stage. Be weary of the jaded musician that shows up wearing bland attire, is afraid to make eye contact with anyone, doesn't smile, and doesn't know how to carry a conversion with inquisitive quests. Finally comes experience. There are important matters/skills of business/performing that can only be acquired over time from years of performing.
