Ociel and Anthony helped me by installing new kits in both of our water saver toilets and a brand new pull-out kitchen faucet. I also had them install a permanent shower curtain rod attached to the wall since the spring tension rod was always falling down. They did a good job and cleaned up any mess. Everything is working well now!

Nick and Ben did an awesome job remodeling both of my bathrooms with natural stone tile over the past two weeks, and they also helped with a few handyman-type projects throughout the home. They were always right on time every day, gave creative feedback to optimize the layout/design, and did outstanding craftsmanship. I've used Thumbtack for a number of years and have had a tough time finding the right combination of quality:value, am glad to have found Nick's company as this is the only one I will recommend to all my friends in the future for any & all home improvement projects.

Michael, was very helpful with three homes he has worked on for me. He remodeled bathroom with tile shower & floor. New vanity with vessel sink. I took his suggestion to insulate brick home (only 1 room was missing insulation); now my room is comfortable with temperature. He smoothed out my sheet rock walls and painted the whole house. He was able to get a carpeting company to come and install carpet in one day notice. My front porch; completed wood treatment and staining; for outdoor durability. My other home in Gilbert; he improved the value of the home; was able to sell the home for more than we had expected. (The first weekend, home was on market; we had five offers) He placed new kitchen counter, sink, faucet and painted all the cabinets with a two tone color. He updated the three baths with tile floors and new hardware throughout. He replaced three big windows in the home. Stair case painting was nice. The stucco painting was very nice. My mother's home; he replaced the back yard wood fence with wood treatment color. Refinished the whole roof, after a leak into one of the bedroom ceiling. That bedroom with water damage; he placed floor tile; painted walls and new fascia. The driveway is awesome with brick paver's throughout. Thank you for all the work you have done for us.

Frank Yannich is a contractor I hired for several jobs. He was always professional, courteous, reasonably priced and on time. His knowledge and skills include a wide range. Some repairs were small like replacing rotted wood, plumbing and fixing my garage door. However. his carpentry work and attention to detail really shine in the bigger projects such as the install of my bamboo flooring, tile work in the bathrooms and also a kitchen remodeling. He stayed within his estimated time frame and my budget. Frank was also able to give suggestions and advice when I was overwhelmed with choices. Frank cares about his work and treats your home as if it's his own. I would highly recommend him for your handyman projects.

I was referred to James Valdez, Southwest Patio Concepts, by my brother. I wanted to replace the various flooring in my over 40 year old house with tile. Along with baseboards and 3 doors damaged by termites. I was told that James does so much more than outdoor patios. I met with James and his associate Lee. After discussing the scope of the project, I decided to trust my project to him. He took care to protect furniture in the house when they demoed carpet and at least 3 layers of various flooring. He worked 6 days a week for 3 weeks and each day the site was left orderly. I appreciated his attention to detail; such as, color matching existing paint on the walls when touch ups were needed from the removal of old baseboards and trim. I'm so pleased with the finished look of the project. I learned by talking to him he has a variety of skills. If there is something he can't do, he can recommend a professional who can. I now have someone I can trust with my home improvement projects. James Valdez is reliable, detailed oriented and very professional. I would highly recommend him and Southwest Patio Concepts for any of your installation needs.

I could not have asked for better from George and the rest of Get It Ready staff. They began work on my mother’s house by fixing her electronic gate. We proceeded to have them fix all of the things wrong with her house based on the wonderful work they did. George was very thorough in explaining to me what was wrong and the costs for the work was extremely reasonable. With the exception of the carpet (he was honest in telling me that they were not good at seams) and electronic work on her fish pond, they were able to complete everything; painting, installing hand rails, blinds, repairing the walls, fixing the tile, repairing the porches, fixing the exterior and all of the other various things on my “Honey Do list”. The few repairs that they did not do on the house, George recommended who could do the work. My family and I are extremely grateful for the craftmanship and professionalism that they exhibited on our home. I would, without hesitation recommend them. Thank you again Nicholle

He installed a swing arm mirror on my bathroom wall. It was a little more difficult because I already had hardware from another mirror installed in the same place. Lloyd was able to remove old hardware, putty holes and install mirror on the wall. Mounting hardware that came with mirror was of poor quality and he was able to repurpose my old hardware to make the mirror fit perfectly on the wall.

They installed a library in an extra bedroom and did a fabulous job. It included a hideaway bed, solid wood shelfs on all four walls, a sliding door to give more room! they matched the wood fan to the wood stain, and its beautiful. The attention to function and detail was wonderful! They have become my renovation people for over ten years now, installing tile, doors, closet shelves, emergency plumbing (I was so lucky they were available) and regular too, recently fixing an old shower and tub faucet. I just wish I had more money to spend with them!

Jake LaFave installed tile in 2 bathrooms. The final result was very good. Jake is an honest, hard working guy. He did not get the job done in the time, estimated, due to tile saw problems and a vehicle breakdown. To his credit, he always called to let me know if he was delayed. I would recommend Jake to others. His prices were very competitive.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
