Ociel and Anthony helped me by installing new kits in both of our water saver toilets and a brand new pull-out kitchen faucet. I also had them install a permanent shower curtain rod attached to the wall since the spring tension rod was always falling down. They did a good job and cleaned up any mess. Everything is working well now!

I needed someone to retexture my ceilings and patch up some holes around the house. I can't express how satisfied I am with Robert's work! He did a fantastic job. The texture matches perfectly with my kitchen. You can't even tell it was a different job. It looks amazing! He was on time and he completed the entire job in one day. Even stayed a little later just to get it knocked out for us. To top it all off he even washed my ceiling vents! 😃 great guy, great quality work! I highly recommend him for any project. We'll definitely be calling him in the future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nick and team are master craftsman and top, top talent. We did a major, nearly whole house, remodel and Nick's work was stunning. Can't say enough about how happy we are with the results of our new kitchen, new hardwood floors, etc. Still working on a few items and will have Nick and crew back later in the year to re-do our bathrooms to complete the house. We highly recommend Nick for any of your projects.

Michael, was very helpful with three homes he has worked on for me. He remodeled bathroom with tile shower & floor. New vanity with vessel sink. I took his suggestion to insulate brick home (only 1 room was missing insulation); now my room is comfortable with temperature. He smoothed out my sheet rock walls and painted the whole house. He was able to get a carpeting company to come and install carpet in one day notice. My front porch; completed wood treatment and staining; for outdoor durability. My other home in Gilbert; he improved the value of the home; was able to sell the home for more than we had expected. (The first weekend, home was on market; we had five offers) He placed new kitchen counter, sink, faucet and painted all the cabinets with a two tone color. He updated the three baths with tile floors and new hardware throughout. He replaced three big windows in the home. Stair case painting was nice. The stucco painting was very nice. My mother's home; he replaced the back yard wood fence with wood treatment color. Refinished the whole roof, after a leak into one of the bedroom ceiling. That bedroom with water damage; he placed floor tile; painted walls and new fascia. The driveway is awesome with brick paver's throughout. Thank you for all the work you have done for us.

Jakki has a real flare with style! When I moved to a new townhouse in Moorpark, CA I called her once again. I explained that I wanted to paint the kitchen and living room, which was one big open space. After describing the kitchen cabinets, granite counter tops, tile floors and black/stainless steel appliances and the blue/green slate around the fireplace in the living room with beige carpet, she selected chocolate for the kitchen walls and a light blue for the living room! It was stunning! I had so many compliments on the colors and they were amazed that my designer never set foot in the house when she assisted with the colors. Jakki is the real deal, you won't be disappointed with what she can do when she waves her "magic wand"!

I have used TWD Interiors for a variety of home renovation projects and found Tom Doughty to be a very talented and reliable craftsman. Tom managed the redesign and reconstruction of a new kitchen in my current townhouse as well as replacing all the original windows. He also shored up the foundation of a Victorian house I previously owned and restored the antique stairs to its front porch. More recently he installed a walk in shower in the space previously occupied by an old tub, including the design, tiling and construction. Tom is particularly skillful at carpentry and is able to apply his design visions to enable a successful outcome in both restoration and new construction.

I was looking for a contractor last minute to do a quote on a possible kitchen renovation. I wanted to make sure it was possible to do before I made an offer on a house. I was surprised to find a contractor to come out at 5pm on a Sunday for an estimate but Coronado Construction did! I placed my offer on the house and look forward to setting up a date to renovate the kitchen, once the house closes. Thank you again!!

Pleasure to deal with. Quality of work is outstanding! I got them to install an outdoor kitchen, fire pit and a big waterfall and they have definitely turned my backyard into my favorite place to hang out. I recommend them to everyone I know. I know good work isn't cheap but they were reasonable with their price. No issues.

We had a huge kitchen/bathroom remodel project in a fixer upper house. The ceiling needed to be raised, walls taken down, doors put it, everything out and new tiles in. We called Maxx Builder out to help us with the project. He has specific tilers on staff, who did a great tiling job on completely uneven floors. He has a certified plumber, electrician, AC guy, all of them were needed in our projects. They had great recommendations for the recessed ceiling lights and the projects flowed very smoothly along. We needed everything from drywall work to recessed ceiling lights to plumbing work. My husband and I were very pleased with his guys. Nader came by throughout the day to take a look at the project progress. Overall, we had a great experience with all of his workers. In 8 months we will embark on another remodel project and will definitely call him out again. His workers will also work on weekends if need to. Some project came along at great speed. We can recommend Nader Barghout and his team. Georgetta Dolphin

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
