FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge hourly for tutoring and language interpretation. I charge per word or a flat rate per project for translation and editing, depending on if there are file conversions or other requirements beyond text file translation.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Tutoring: Email or talk over the phone to discuss the student's previous and current experience with the subject/language, their goals and desired time frame for achieving them, time they can commit to lessons, any special learning needs or preferences. Set up an initial session in which I can get a feel for their proficiency level, they can get a feel for my teaching style, and we can set up a schedule for future sessions. Translation: Via email or phone, gather information about the project in order to formulate a quote: what language is the original text and what language(s) and country/region is it needed in; type of text (e.g. birth certificate, university transcript, software installation manual, etc.); approx. length of text; date translation is needed. I typically send a quote by the next business day, sooner for very small projects.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in Spanish Translation & Interpretation Studies, Magna Cum Laude (3.83 GPA); Undergraduate law courses at Mexico's Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM); Graduate coursework in Hispanic Linguistics; National Center for Interpretation's Court Interpreter Training Institute
