- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I really enjoy doing continuing education through ACSM, but also by attending classes at the local college and grand rounds and the University Medical Center in town. The most interesting things come out of research, and little things can help me understand the interrelated effects of many aspects of wellness and how they relate to my clients. You never know when one little detail will come in handy in explaining an aspect of fitness and wellness, or in determining someone's response to exercise or nutrition. Every little bit helps make me better at what I do.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began working in fitness because of my many injuries, and learning to rehab myself so that I could still be active and dance and do all of the many things I love to do! Since then, I have been fortunate to work with competitive athletes, people with injuries, arthritis and chronic illness, and every day is so rewarding. I began making soaps and lotions when my oldest child was allergic to everything she tried! Learning the chemistry was well worth the effort, and now I am able to adapt recipes to almost anyone's needs. I also love that I can access traditional heritage processes to make products which are healthy and pure, not laden with chemicals. I have loved sewing and crafting for all of my life, and jewelry making is a great artistic outlet for me. I also find it so rewarding to match jewelry that is one of a kind to a person's own style, knowing that no one will have a piece exactly like theirs, or that will mean quite as much as the one made just for them.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always ask to see samples of work previously commissioned, as well as credentials of any service provider. We are so proud to share them with you!
