I have been a Handyman for over 12 years as well as self-employed for over 25 years and have never had an experience with a customer like this. The project I was hired to perform was to finish drywall work around a shower that was not completed by a previous contractor, install new vinyl tile floor and replace 2 faucets, water lines and valves in a different bathroom. As for the shower, he asked me to install the missing drywall utilizing green board. The area above the shower he is talking about was already drywalled. It was never discussed nor included in the estimate. The green board was installed in the none completed areas as discussed and estimated. As far as the "extra" work I performed, I removed the 3 layers of vinyl flooring so it would be level and it was to his benefit and I asked him to approve a $50 additional labor charge (less than 6% of the total job). He complained, so I said if he could not get it approved by the owner of the property, then I would understand. I never "demanded" payment, he let me know that the owner of the property approved the additional charge. I asked him about the paint and he said it was ok. When he said he did not like it, I repainted to match, no questions asked!! He accused me of plugging the sink, so I did the honorable thing and sent a plumber to fix. The plumber informed me that the clog was caused by the vent pipe being clogged above the area I worked on. Basically impossible for me to clog. I was not responsible for the clog but made sure it got fixed. As far as the "better, less expensive fan", he did the foot work and I discounted the price(he felt I should have discounted it another $8). He took it upon himself to find the fan, I still had to go to Home Depot to pay for it and pick it up! I completed all work asked of me as well as patching 2 holes that were not originally estimated and I repaired them for free. This individual spent more time wasting my time by asking me to do more and more for FREE because I was there. I am guessing that the contractor that installed the new shower did not finish the job because this guy drove them insane! I do admit to calling him an a*&hole, but he kept threatening me with a law suit and I do not operate that way. I take great pride in my work, I guarantee my work and he is the first negative comment I have had in 12 years as a Handyman!
