FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally charge ≥ $600 for a logo, though I often quote low on Thumbtack. Because of the limited quote system here, I tend to use this service as a means to fill openings in my schedule, and can afford to charge less. I also offer branded collateral at a big discount for logo clients. So if a logo costs $800, for example, I can add a business card design for $100 — roughly half-off. More collateral = deeper discount!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I’ll ask a series of questions (in person, by phone or email) to get to know the nature of their business, event, etc., as well as their own personal preferences for the finished product. After I feel that I have enough to work with, I’ll take a few days for the research & development stage and then design a first draft version for their approval/feedback. In most cases, this moves forward to the final presentation; however, I include three attempts per project. So if the first draft misses the mark, we’ll have a conversation about what’s working, what isn’t, and what we must have missed in earlier conversations, and then it’s back to the drawing board! Once the finishing touches are made to the chosen concept, I handover the source file (Adobe Illustrator), as well as any file types the client requests (pdf, eps, png, gif, jpg, etc.)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in graphic design and 22 years experience as a designer and illustrator, 8 of those as an Art Director. I create logos and/or illustrations on a daily basis; when my schedule is clear, I still design — or redesign — imagery for existing businesses as exercise.
