He did a great job installing a bathroom vent, fixing an electric outlet and door latch. He is very honest and he's pricea are reasonable. I have asked him to return and do some plumbing work in addition to other hone projects. I plan on using him for all my future hone repair and projects. I highly recommend him.

Professionals here are hit or miss (even with good review) But they have proven the good reviews were real. They were prompt in response, took time to explain, review, confirm the project prior to the appointment. Showed up, finished in time, done the job all right (there were 6 rekeys, new door knobs, a little complicated) and gave extra keys no charge. Two thumbs up!

Bruce King fixed an old out of production window lever no one else could fix. He was prompt, professional, polite, and charged what he quoted. I had been trying for weeks to get someone to fix this before finding Bruce. I'm very impressed - and grateful! Jennifer in Santa Monica

He was very professional and attentive. He went above and beyond any expectation I had. The job he was hired for was only 2 rooms. He was so good, we had him do another bathroom and 2 more rooms. His prep work was great and he put everything back in the same place it was removed from. He was very clean and respectful. We will hire him for more jobs to come.

Great Experience. Posted that I was looking to install uniquely keyed locks, in two bedroom doors from a 1940s apartment that had mortise pocket locks with a skeleton key on one and just a mortise privacy lock on the other, both in a metal door frame. I clarified that I would prefer them to be smart locks with keypad entry. Came out the day I originally posted the job to give me an estimate and recommendation on the best way to accomplish what I wanted. I purchased my own lockset, and a month later asked if he was still available; he came out the next morning. Communicated well through the whole process, did great work, and was even 15 minutes early for my appointment. Will definitely use again! Thank You!

Celso has performed multiple jobs on my property including replacing back patio pergola, replacing all door and door frames, baseboards and crown molding installation, cabinet installation, removing old shingles and replacing with siding, replacing fascia boards, scraping popcorn off the ceilings, texturing, stucco repair, drywall repair and painting. Also created a small storage room in the attic area. All performed with excellent workmanship and professionalism. Unforeseen issues handled fairly and reasonable. Shows up on time. Does what he says. Integrity in a business that seems to be lacking in that trait. If it's something that he's never done before he'll tell you as opposed to faking his way through just to get the business. I highly recommend Celso!

Alon arrived as scheduled and looked at the lock that have been giving me a lot of trouble in the last few weeks. He immediately found the fault in the frame of the door that caused the lock to fail. He adjusted the door and replaced the lock with a heavy duty lock. He even matched the lock to my existing home key so I won't need to carry around additional keys. A++ service.

Craig installed an interior door in my house and did a fantastic job! He was very nice and respected my request to use the existing door jamb instead of installing a new one- which would’ve been a little more messy. Furthermore, he also fixed issues with two of my other doors with no additional charge! He was super professional, personable and went above and beyond to improve our house!

Paul has been exemplary from start to finish. His responsiveness is second to none in this field, and the jobs that could have taken a month with other contractors was completed in 10 very efficient days. Initially I was just looking for help rehanging doors. I was so happy with the result, I asked Paul to take on a few other jobs, including refinishing the hardwood floors, repairing another patio door, replacing a broken window and painting the interior of half my house. Highly recommended. Thanks Paul!

You can tell by his work he have professional experience for over 35 years. I like how professional his work is done & how polished it is when it"s completed. I had my bathroom painted, a wood frame covered up pluming that the last handyman left out. He helped fix up work that the last handyman left poorly. So I trusted in him to insert 2 bedroom new doors and a wooden gate for my driveway. I highly recommend him. He speaks perfect English & Spanish.

I just moved in to a new house and had a broken lock on my back door and had to re key my front door and garage door. I called A few locksmiths in the area and they all started giving me really high quotes. However the HQ locksmith made it out to me really fast, he gave me the best quote and seemed very professional. He re keyed the locks and changed the lock on my back door and made sure to clean up after himself. He was a true gentleman and even helped me fix one of my windows that wouldn't close all the way for no extra charge. I would definitely recommend HQ and will use them again if I ever need a locksmith.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
