FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I often will work on a flat fee per piece of work, ie a price per article of a certain word count and parameters. Other times I can work on an hourly rate that can vary from $35/hr to $50+/hr depending upon important variables about the work.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In the case of a business article or blog item the client gives me the essential topic/subject and the parameters and guidelines of what they would like, including a word count and a deadline. If there's any particular type of technical information I need to know, whether they direct me to documentation or I find it myself through online research and he or she will indicate any desired subject interviews which I can conduct in pursuit of attributable quotes and background information. Client reads a first draft of the work and lets me know any revisions/edits they would like me to do in order to get the to finished draft status.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.A. in Social Sciences from Reed College in Portland, OR Training on the job, writing well over 150 articles for newspapers and magazines in Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles, including Boston Globe-owned Community Newspapers, LA Times, LA Weekly and NY Times.
