Tucker was the highlight of my 1 year old's birthday party. He brings a ton of energy to his singing - it's more of a performance than just a guy with his guitar. He has a great set of songs my little one loves (wheel on the bus, etc) and classic rock, folk songs I love (take me home country roads, etc). Multiple guests came to me after the party to say how much they enjoyed Tucker's music. During the party, I saw many of kiddos completely enthralled with the music. They sat in front of him, shaking their shakers and shimmying their shoulders. Really great experience.

LadyMarry's presence with the DJ, coordinator, videographer and florist allowed our wedding to flow so smoothly. It was a fantastic party. Our dance party went longer than most, but we had no problem dancing the night away with DJ Garrett! Not only is he great at his work, but he's the kind of guy we'd invite to our wedding anyway :) We are really happy that we found the whole team. You will be too!

We hired Tyler to play a 180 person cocktail party and dinner at Pelican Hill for a corporate event last Saturday. He was so good that the crowd wouldn't let him stop so we ended up hiring him for an additional hour! We wanted him to play more pop music versus more traditional jazz as we wanted an upbeat performance. He did an awesome job with his playlist and provided exactly what we were looking for. He worked the crowd by walking through the dinner tables while playing all types of genre. He had everyone up dancing including the CEO, not something you usually see from a one man sax player at a dinner event! He received more than 1 standing ovation. Received tons of feedback following the event from the attendees that it was their favorite part of the 3 day event. Would hire him again in a minute. Tremendous value for the cost.

Steve Clark + Event = Like! or should I say, Love! Steve is the consummate performer. We have had the pleasure of seeing Steve perform at a couple of celebrations including most-recently our own. He has a unique ability to engage audiences of all ages and genre preferences. As anticipated, our guests LOVED Steve and were thoroughly entertained. Thank you for making our party that much more special and for the wonderful memories! We look forward to the opportunity to share many more together!

The Sweet 16 party was a blast and Reckless was a hit! The music was fantastic and the vocals were so Rock n' Roll. We had both teens and adults and so many of my guests asked me where I found the band and commented how amazing and fun Reckless was at the party. The band was overall just fantastic. Only one drawback, in between sets we played iPod music that our guests danced too as well. Often when they began the next set the iPod song was cut off right in the middle. Other than that, absolutely no complaints. They were on time, did a great job and created a great fun experience for the guests. The highlight of the night was their grand finale with show-stoppers like "Rock n roll all night," "Don't stop believin" and "Livin on a prayer." To top it off they got my daughter on stage (who the party was for) and had her rockin' out. They gave her an experience and birthday she will never forget. Old and young alike, Reckless was a hit and a favorite. They put on an excellent show and were very professional. I will definitely have them back again for other parties.

BoomBox Heroes was one of the best decisions that we could have made for our wedding. They were accommodating to making their setlist to our desires. They offered fun outfit themes that we chose. I asked for some special requests, and they learned the 2 songs for us; both of which turned out great! When the big day came, they had top-quality sound equipment, lights, stage settings, and sound/light/video techs. It was a full-service for a very affordable cost! They even allowed me to come up and sing with them! There is no doubt that they were the hit of our wedding, and made it a party that would not be forgotten. As an individual that is very familiar with the music world and scene, I found BoomBox Heroes to be top-notch professionals, performers, musicians, and most of all-- A PARTY! I recommend them to the fullest!

The John Brown Band played the Redondo Beach 4th of July Block Party and had the whole neighborhood rockin' out all night long. What a party!! After I heard them play, I knew I wanted to hire them for my wedding in San Diego on August 29. We had a great experience working with John and would recommend them in a heartbeat. The #1 comment from our wedding guests was how awesome the band was!! Upbeat song selection, dance-ability, and timing were perfect, even with no rehearsal on the Bridal Party Entrance!!! They even played a very special song (Harvest Moon) which I had totally forgotten to request - just perfect. And we got some GREAT pictures. :)

Hugo is very responsive to all my questions and answer it very quickly. Initially I was looking for a band but Hugo sent me email and I liked his video so I decided to hire him. It's 1 of the best decision I've ever made.Everyone at the party is impressed with Hugo. He is really a good singer and I'm really satisfied with his performance which is way better than his video. I will definitely hire him for future events. You hit a jackpot when you hire him so stop looking and just hire him!

We asked Margie to come entertain us at our company Christmas party and everybody enjoyed her singing and entertaining. Our employees would get up and sing along. Margie has a very nice voice and covers both cover songs as well as her own originals. All were very good. We couldn't be more pleased with the level of performance she brought to our party. Thanks Margie!

I have known Jennifer Deirmendjian for 12 years now and worked with her musically on solo projects off and on as well as performances in bands. She plays and writes violin beautifully. I have learned so much from her musicianship in rehearsals on a professional level more than anyone I have ever worked with. She is patient, kind and disciplined. I highly recommend her teaching experience as she has been my mentor and inspired me in so many ways!

Absoulute has played for California Yacht Club's biggest regatta party two years in a row, and both times, the crowd wouldn't let them stop. The band was perfectly tuned in to the vibe of the crowd and everyone was dancing. As the organizer, they could not have made my life any easier. They were all super to work with -- on time, professional, easy going, and eager to please.

You were great, and you kept the young and old hopping. They all didn't want the music to end. You are a terrific DJ and MC." - Marlene Silva, grandmother of the bride ===================================== ALSO - You are invited to a '70s disco show and party with The Bootie Shakers, a rocking '70s disco dance band! Come "boogie down!" The Bootie Shakers are among the hottest '70s disco bands around. The band is perfect for parties, weddings, clubs, fairs, festivals and a great time, anytime! Everyone is talking about The Bootie Shakers! The Bootie Shakers are fast becoming known as the best '70s era disco dance band from California, and now also on The east coast in Florida. They will travel to your event. Maselli has exchanged his drumming and rhythm talents to become the hard-driving guitarist for this rocking '70s disco band. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
