Where do I start?? I was absolutely skeptical when I decided to give Indoor Climate Experts a chance. This would be the 4th technicians to come look at our central air conditioning unit which went out last summer and hasn’t worked since. I’d been given quotes from $1,400 - $15,000. I finally had a trusted family member spend some time lo

Keith was quick to meet my needs for a new air conditioning unit, he came to my house on time and did a great job - my air conditioner is wonderful. I was that it took longer than he thought and he was not completely prepared as he had to leave to get a fuse. Seems he should have had one with him. I would certainly recommend Keith to anyone for repairing / replacing their A/C.

So happy with Victor I went through hell with HVC contractors, unbelievable that it so hard to find hontest . on time . Reasonable rates. I spent 6 weeks I know enough about Heating and air I could sell it ! Don't waste time if you want honesty fair pricing work and someone who says what he means and stand by his word, Then look no further HIRE This company . Being a older woman I could not believe what some of these people tried to charge and BS they tried to pull. I know a lot more then to trust some of the people who showed up to bid . Thank You Victor For being a Honest Businessman!

My husband and I were at a social event and we were conversing about our air conditioning not working properly with the new baby. A family friend of ours recommeded Jayson from TCS. My husband called the next day and Jayson made an appt for 1 pm same day. He was fast and efficient and best of all he was affordable. The A/C is fixed and we now have a company to recommend to friends and family in need! Thank you Jayson!

Don did the maintenance on our stores air conditioning. The price we were quoted was the price we were billed. Years ago we had another company come out and they were there 10 minutes and charged us $500. We will call DC/AC the next time we need something done on our A/C

He was amazing, were so thankful Juan sent us a quote and worked with our family. He installed central air, took out our old furnace - and it wasn’t an easy job. Start to finish it only took a weekend and by dinner time on Sunday we had central air. We have 2 little boys and I can’t believe they wrap everything up before they went to bed both nights, it was a pretty painless operation and we can’t thank you enough!

Needed estimate on new HVAC Heating and air conditioning installation. The owner asked me several questions about the house and what kind of system i was looking for, he said since we live in Carlsbad that we don't need a very high efficiency ac and heating system since its only cold or hot about 2 months out of the year. We were so confused about what type and what efficiency to get. He put our mind at ease and saved us about $2,500.00. Going with a high efficiency system will never had made any sense since we don't use it that much. The the owner is not a salesman otherwise he would have sold us on high end ac system which we don't know. Logic and sense made our decision easy. Thanks!

Steve showed up right on time and proceeded to install new fill valves and flappers in the 2 toilets that were giving me problems. Steve was very professional and took care to catch any water that came out of tank after disconnecting. He was done in a timely manner with a more than fair price. He picked up and discarded all trash and wiped down the tile floor when he was finished. Glad to have found a local go to plumber. Steve will next be servicing my air conditioning system. thank you!

I got quotes from at least 8 contractors and Eddie gave me a very competitive price. He also has a great review on yelp (check with him for how to see the reviews). He patiently answered all my questions and finished within one day for a whole house AC installation. It was the right timing for the hot season, and so far it's running good and strong. I will surely recommend Eddie to my friends/neighbors or anyone if they ask me for suggestion. At least give Eddie a call/message before making the final decesion!

I now have an updated furnace and a new air conditioning unit that quickly cools down my house for the hot summers. Charlie makes sure everything works well and explains how everything works. He also goes into detail on how to keep the unit running well over the years. He was always on time and stays in contact if he's going to be a little late or even early. He removed the old furnace and made sure everything was clean and thrown away. Overall, a very good experience at a great price.

Mike and team did an excellent job, replacing my aged AC/Heat unit and duct-work with a brand new, energy efficient system, upgraded duct-work and replacement registers and returns. The removal & install took the 2 days he estimated. No hidden issues or costs. They showed up on time. Very quick and painless. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to friends or family.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
