- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always make sure your contractor is properly licensed and insured to contract with you and perform work on your project. Licenses can be checked with the California State License Board here: https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/CheckLicense.aspx While most unlicensed contractors are cheaper, their services come with an inherent risk. If someone working on your home or business is injured and does not hold the proper licensing or insurance, the homeowner may be held liable for their injuries. Licensed contractors are also required to be bonded for a minimum of $12,500. A bond is a guarantee by a third party that the contractor will perform and fulfill their contract. If the contractor does not perform, the bonding agency will pay for the project to be finished. When hiring an unlicensed individual, there is no guarantee that your project will be finished.
