As the director of Mission Promise Neighborhood’s community engagement, I know how critical it is to our programs of family educational and economic development that we have dynamic, well-conceived, culturally appropriate and compelling graphics to communicate with our constituents. In my search for an agency capable of that level of graphics, I found OMc design on the Internet and called to get a quote. My first impression was that Christoph Oppermann, the founder and creative director took time to speak with me and he listened, carefully, to what I had to say. Finally when we received a grant for the design work, I contacted Christoph again and began to collaborate on our branding project for the Mission Promise Neighborhood. Here is what I learned about OMc and Christoph during the time we worked together: • Christoph took the time to research our audience and hear what we wanted. He gave us a variety of options to choose from once he understood us, our wishes, needs and budget • Christoph and team went above and beyond in the time they spend in meetings with us. The result was that they came back to us with a professional, high quality and beautiful design that we now proudly wear and use in all our materials, collateral and swag • Christoph is deeply responsive and committed to his clients. He gives the utmost respect and caring to produce a result capable of representing our programs • Our need was to reach the Latino community. Christoph met that need by considering culture, language and the feel that our logo must have to represent us to our multiple audiences - from families receiving services to donors and stakeholders. We couldn’t be happier with the end result as well as the collaborative and collegial process Christoph used. I recommend OMc to companies big and small. Christoph provides the same level of high quality to all. I would work with Christoph at every opportunity we have to work with a design company. Every Family Succeeds. Every Student Achieves. Cada Familia Triunfa. Cada Estudiante Logra. I had been procrastinating for quite some time about hiring a web designer, but was so glad to be matched up with J-357 through thumbtack! From our first conversation, I knew that her great personality was going to be the perfect fit. She was extremely easy to work with, and provided exceptional communication. Being that we live on opposite coasts, I truly appreciated her quick communication and adaptability. She really went above and beyond to work with me across time zones, and was extremely flexible with my schedule. But it didn't stop there...the website that she designed for me is absolutely amazing; it is truly everything I envisioned and more! J-357 provided a training session once the website was complete. She is great to work with if you are not tech savvy, and explains the details in clear and simplified terms. She is extremely patient, takes into consideration your suggestions, and is extremely quick with the edits. Compared to other web designers that I researched, her pricing is extremely reasonable. J-357 provided an awesome service all around. I would recommend this web designer to anyone who is looking for a high quality, professional or personal website. Thanks J-357!

Deanna is pure website GOLD. I hired her to update and revamp my old photography website using the WIX platform. Her initial brief was to incorporate SEO, spruce up my social media presence, work on the speed and the responsiveness to my website. When I first started looking for a web designer, I received around 20 responses within the first hour from interested professionals, but what stood out for me about Deanna's work, was the distinctly clean, crisp and artistic feel of her work. She clearly has an edge over many other designers in that she is not only very tech savvy, but she has an eye for design and an artistic appeal that is perfect for the visual world so important in photography web design. During the two months of working with her on my project, I realized that I had only touched the surface of Deanna's brilliance. Deanna's real genius came through in the form of her continual motivation to learn and improve things, coupled with her ability to brainstorm and problem-solve. For example we had a problem that we had to forward onto the WIX support professionals--two days later they still couldn't figure out the problem--in the end it was Deanna who figured out the problem that the Wix designers couldn't solve. The best thing about Deanna is that she is motivated to keep learning, and sharing information with you, so in hiring Deanna you can be assured that you will be more educated at the end of the process too. She is a consummate professional in every way, and exhibits a beautiful balance between keeping things professional with a personal touch. I strongly recommend her to anyone who is looking to update/design their website and there is no one else I will use for any future updates. Thanks Deanna--and in the words of Tina Turner...you are 'SIMPLY THE BEST'! Cheers Charnell

The process of finding the right web developer/designer is not an easy task. Our company interviewed many prospects and found either they were way over our budget or not experienced enough to create a solid website for us. We needed a team that were well verse not only in design and user interface but also coding. We came across Technigami through a referral and decided to go with them based on their professionalism, skills, creativity, and responsiveness. We received a detailed proposal about the project. They also gave us tips on how to improve our business through online presence in social media, customer retention, analytics, the whole deal. We needed a launch page ready in a very short period of time prior to the completion of the website. They were able to implement the page on our website right a way. They were able to deliver far above what we expected and very responsive to our needs and concerns. We like their work so much we decided to have their team of developers help us build a software to manage our inventory and manufacturing process. We highly recommend Technigami. Thank you for your awesome work!

Unlike other local web design companies, I'm surprised by the quality of work by Aspiri. They helped me to establish a brand as if I had an entire branding and marketing team working for me from one of those tech start-ups.

We highly recommend Marat. Our website went down one day and was not functioning. When we called our host we were told we didn't have the updated Genesis revision required. We tried but we were unable to fix it on our own. We were searching online for the right person who could help our small business. We couldn't afford to throw thousands of dollars at a major designer to fix our website. We needed someone who would guide us through a process over time to control costs and our time investments, as we still had to do our day jobs. I went through a lot of ads and called a lot of people. After speaking with Marat on the phone I was hopeful, when we met, I knew I found the right man for the job. Marat was professional, knowledgeable, and available to help. Marat helped us make a plan moving forward. For the first phase, he fixed our child theme, got us updated to the latest version of Genesis, and got our website back online. During the next phase Marat implemented a new gallery to help showcase our business to customers across multiple mobile devices. He walked us through everything we needed help with. Marat's customer service was always top notch. Marat returned phone calls and emails promptly. He understood what I wanted and implemented it efficiently. Again, we highly recommend Marat, he will always be our go to web guy.

Rus and his team are one of the best, of not THE BEST web developer teams, we, at White Gorilla Media, had pleasure working with. They are very responsive, results-driven and very attentive to details, both in technology, as well as design. We are excited to grow together as close collaborators and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment recommending them to anyone who's looking to achieve proven results with projects large and small. Go, Wind!

        About

I am a bio-engineering student currently attending Santa Clara University. I would like to offer my services as a graphic and web designer, and I hope to get some work in the next few months. Please don't hesitate to ask about pricing and what might suit you. I'm flexible. I want to be as straightforward as I can and I want to do a good job! Attached is a link to my portfolio (cooler website to come soon; it's just my portfolio now). I also have a resume, so if you would like to see it, then don't hesitate to send me an email or call. I know that answering the question, "so, how much do you charge?" is a little tricky because I don't just have one flat fee. To answer this question, however, I'll just give some prices for some other stuff in my portfolio. The titles can be found in my portfolio, linked below. - Maral Habib Photography (Website) - $500 - Accessgroup SCA (Website) - $1000 - Santa Clara Community Action Program (Website) - $700 - Dynasty Salon (Website) - $400 For websites, pricing is based on the size and the amount of flash components involved. In other words, you basically get what you pay for, but like I said, I can negotiate pricing. - Where I'm coming From (Poster) - $200 - Drag Show (Poster) - $200 - Project Kizzi (Poster) - $200 For these posters that I have made, I simply charge a fee of $200. The reason these cost so much is because I spend upwards of 15 or 20 hours on each one. - Rainbow Prom (Poster) - $100 - Potty Talk (Poster) - $100 These posters are smaller and took less time, so I would only price them at $100. A note about me: I'm pretty straightforward and honest: services from me cost $200 instead of $199.99, and they take me a week instead of a month with a bunch of binding contracts. Every image or photograph on my website is original. There are no stock photography or images (unlike 85% of all other web designers). Am I right for you? I'd say that any of the following would work particularly well with my style of working and design. - Special events posters, music or theatrical - Tickets for special events - Promotional posters and signs - Restaurant/food business websites - Privately owned small business websites - Salon or boutique websites or graphics - Photography/any freelance artist websites - Websites for weddings or special events Thanks, and I hope to hear back from you! If you have any questions at all, just ask.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

        • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
        • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
        • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

How do you hire a web designer?

You’ve determined that the best way to create a professional, modern, mobile-friendly new website is to hire a professional web designer to build it. To hire the best person for the job — and to get the web design that best fits your company’s identity — it’s important to ask a few key questions:

        • What’s the scope of the work? Will the website be basic with just a few pages about your company, its services, and contact information? Or will it also have an e-commerce section for online shopping, a blog, or content for visitors to download? Before you hire a web designer, make sure you have a thorough, specific list of the components you must have the designer include in the web design.
        • What do you want your website to look like? Consider websites that are similar to the one you’d like to build, ideally in the same industry or serving similar types of customers. Build a set of examples of types of pages, design aspects, and website features that you can hand off to the web designer — the person you hire should have experience creating websites with the features you want. If they don’t have the right skill set, they’re not the right pro for you.
        • What’s the web designer’s start-to-finish process? What will the final deliverable be? Before you hire someone, make sure their availability works with your timeline and that their process meets your expectations. Most important is finding a web designer who will work collaboratively with you to create a successful online presence.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
