Introduction
I have a natural gift understanding dogs. I am specialized in resolving aggression and fear and have saved many dogs giving them a second chance at life. I am not just a dog trainer, I am a dog behaviorist. That means I understand the psychology of dogs and why they do what they do; how they think, learn and relate to their environment, other dogs and people. I openly share my knowledge with my clients during our sessions as I want to empower you to feeling confident handling all situations your dog might get into. Working with me is stress-free and fun. I make sure you get to know your dog better and you will see your relationship deepen as we work towards your goals. I base everything I do on the nature of dogs and as such am able to achieve fast and lasting results. Working with me you'll learn how to effectively communicate with your dog and get your message across the species boundary with the minimum effort. I am a certified dog trainer (IACP CDT, CDTA) and behaviorist. I am a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and an evaluator for the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) Puppy Star, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Community Canine (Advanced CGC) programs. I am the author of the canine behavioral book If Your Dog Could Talk and owner of Happy Dog Training, LLC. I have been working with dogs for over 15 years. Working with my clients and helping dogs having a better, calmer life with owners who understand them. I love helping my clients understanding their dogs better.

Ralf is so kind, caring but most of all really knows dogs. My experience with him was wonderful really helped me understand my dog, a fearful 6 yr. old rescue. Of course most of it is up to me to continue his good work. Trained her on walking with a leash, fear of riding in the car with his training she just walked right into the crate in the car, no more waiting an hour. Thanks Ralf. Esther Balch

I was skeptical of Ralph's skills before meeting him because all of his reviews were outstanding. It seemed impossible that such a dog trainer would be accessible or affordable. My dog had a lot of fear issues with random people and dogs. When we met Ralph, he showed me his techniques and there were immediate results that I was able to do on my own. Since hiring him a few months ago, we continue to train (I have 2 dogs). He is highly skilled as a trainer especially with dog aggression. I am completely satisfied with his services. He is talented, motivated and has a true business ethic. I endorse his work and fully recommend him as a dog trainer. Coco Baran

Our Golden Retriever puppy was very hard to control. He was constantly chewing on everything including our hands and feet. We needed help so we hired Happy Dog Training. Ralf has been working with our dog Teddy for 6 weeks and he is now well behaved and totally manageable. Ralf is a very knowledgable in the area of canine behavior and his knowledge has resulted in excellent results I highly recommend Ralf and his staff.

My experience with Ralf was great. He is a person who truly understands dogs and was extremely helpful in the one problem I was having with my dog. I would recommend him to any person who is having any type of problem with their dog. Especially aggression he is not afraid to help with this issue and a good trainer to deal with aggression is hard to find.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a certified dog trainer by the International Association of Canine professionals., I am also an AKC evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen program.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Obedience (basic through advanced) Behavior Modification Jumping Leading on the walk Aggression (animals and people) Fear etc.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you need help finding a skilled professional in your area try asking your friends and neighbors for referrals or call a reputable pet sitting service or your vet office and asked them if they can recommend anyone. Once you have a professional’s contact information, call them. During your conversation ask everything you want to know but avoid demanding training or behavior modification be done a specific way. You called a professional to help you because you were overwhelmed with your dog challenges. Let the professional tell you what he suggests to achieve your goals and why he is recommending it. Expect a high-level answer only at this point. Any professional will want to meet you and your dog before providing a detailed diagnosis and resolution approach. A knowledgeable professional will also always ask you questions of his own about your dog and your specific problems. He will want to know things about your dog’s background and daily routine as well as inquire about possible health conditions if applicable to your problems. A reputable professional will often offer you a chance to meet him or her prior to hiring, so he can evaluate your challenges first hand and give you a chance to get to know him as well; after all if you invite someone into your home to work with you and your dog, you need to be comfortable with that person. Reputable professionals charge by the hour (or offer fixed price packages with discounts or guarantees), don’t stand there with a stop watch and will want you to be part of the process. Warning signs are upfront payment requests for large dollar amounts of prepaid hours without guarantees or fixed prices for specific dog problems with a limited number of hours without guarantees. Also, trainers who want to jump straight into scheduling without taking the time to answer your questions, will probably be similarly brief should you hire them. Trainers who offer comprehensive remote diagnosis without ever having met your dog are also people you probably want to stay away from.
