With the help of Rebecca's expertise, I was accepted to medical school and to be completely honest I could not have done it without her! I wanted to thank her so much for helping me throughout this long process (almost one year)! She truly made me the best applicant I could be from writing a new personal statement and editing my entire application along with CV, to writing and editing over 100 secondary application and even helping prepare a stellar personal statement for a prestige summer research position at Harvard! Words can not express how thankful I am to have had Rebecca as my personal professional writer. I really could not have done it without her. I wanted to thank her for being so patient with me and always ready to give me a pep talk and making me believe that this was all possible. I wanted to tell you all this over the phone, but I would have gotten too emotional and started crying because of how amazing she is and how she played such an integral role in helping me achieve my dream(s). So instead I am crying tears of appreciation and joy while I write this review. Thank you Rebecca! :)

Working with Sangeeta was a dream come true! Throughout the entire week or so that we revised and edited my senior thesis, she was almost always available, present, committed, and encouraging. I had no idea how genuinely engaged she would be when she offered to assist me. Finishing the project was stressful. I am a perfectionist. But my worries were reduced because of her. I cannot say how many times she wrote and responded to my Thumbtack messages and emails, reviewing 30,000 words more than once. I highly recommend Sangeeta, and, if you have questions, write her. I am sure that her way of going above and beyond will show in her response. Good luck with your project! :)

Jeff was fantastic. He is knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. He met a quick turnaround (10 days) deadline to edit my book for content, structure, and grammar. I would recommend him, and will definitely use him again for future projects! As an author, I was seeking an editor who would work with my voice to bring it out more - not change it. Jeff brought a great balance of clarity and direction, while balancing and polishing my voice - not inserting his. After interviewing two other editors and working with one in the past, this seems a rarer commodity than it sounds. His fees are also comparable to industry competitors, and reasonable. I will definitely use Jeff again for future editing and feedback about my writing!

Brock designed and implemented my website and has designed flyers and posters for me. Years later people continue to complement me on my website. He has also done photography, photo retouching and photo restoration. Whenever I need something done on the computer other than word processing I contact Brock. He has also done copy writing, editing, business cards, and graphic design. All his work has been excellent and I recommend him without hesitation.

Julian is a thorough editor with a keen eye for detail. He has edited everything from essays to manuscripts for me and has taken my work from good to great. He is proficient at syntactical and grammatical feedback, but he has offered developmental and global insights on my work that ultimately made it publishable. I am always recommending Julian and his writing services to my friends, and I will continue to use Julian for all my writing projects in the future.

Each time she was able to articulate my thoughts in ways I wasn't, whether she wrote the piece or edited my writing. I will go back to her with any and all projects. Ms. Kerner is one of the best writers I know. She particularly edits extremely well. Trained in the traditional rules of writing which is a lost art these days, Ms Kerner has a fundamental knowledge of good writing: correct grammar, proper sentenc structure, outstanding word choice, and good logical flow. She was my assistant and I highly value her writing skills that is not often seen in today's workplac.

I specialize in writing website content that sells your services. My greatest talent though is helping you create a package of your services that is so much more valuable that you can charge 2-10X what you're presently charging. My website content is all about the clients you want to attract. That's what's going to be catnip to them. These two questions are the foundation of your site content: ► What are the problems your clients need your help to solve? ► What are the solutions you provide to those problems? My copy is conversational and free of hype and jargon. Headlines attract and hold the attention of the reader. There is a science for how the content needs to be laid out on the site. It must lead the reader down a path to purchase your services. =======================================================

Welcome to my content driven world...an exploration into the vastness of good content. Each time I write, be it for myself, for another company or when it comes to curating a simple message, I try to push the limit of what the words can do. I like to refer to myself as a contentpreneur because I love to find never before used word combinations that have the potential of being the next viral catch phrase. It's what makes me excited to work with content in any capacity. When it comes to writing about a new topic, I go at it head on. There is no territory I fear to tread on when it comes to writing. I feel confident that I can write creatively, intelligently and simply about any topic or subject. I came across a quote recently that read, "The things you are passionate about are not random. They are your calling." Content, writing and copy editing, I strongly believe, are my calling. I am out to make an editorial difference.

How would you like to have a resume and cover letter that gets results; namely the job interview. Would you enjoy reading over your resume and thinking to yourself, "This is really good. This stands out. I am proud of this." I have been writing resumes and reading thousands of resumes for over 15 years. Bottom line: my clients get results. The results are more invitations to more job interviews than the resume they were using before working with me. Interviews lead to job offers and job offers lead to work. I help you write and/or edit the best resume that fits you. My clients say I am professional, organized, results-oriented and easy to work with. As well, I provide editing services for all things in written form. I am also a performing artist who works with words everyday and how best to convey the written word. Please contact me for a free 10 minute consultation. Let's talk and discover how I can help you with your specific needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
