Classical pianist and improv violinist with performance degrees from Oberlin and Peabody, and a theory degree from Eastman. Studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky, Robert McDonald, Fernando Laires. Trained in Taubman technique. Also teaches classical violin, hand percussion, especially Latin bongo and conga, and music theory (Masters from Eastman). I am passionate about teaching proper technique and musicianship to serious students of any age before they develop many bad habits that will hold them back later on. If the student is dedicated and wishes to play music beyond his or her current abilities, I encourage you to set up a trial lesson with me! I serve Walnut Creek (Mon), Oakland (Tu), Danville (Wed), San Francisco (Th, Sun), and Pleasanton/Livermore/Castro Valley (Fri, Sat). Trial lessons are 30 minutes for $50. Introductory rates: 45 min (kids, beginners) is $75 and 1 hr (adults, advanced) is $100.

Jonathan has been working with me diligently to improve my technique, painstakingly going through difficult passages and patiently explaining different ways to tackle them. He shows up prepared for lessons and has recommended some nice pieces for me to learn.
