FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I consider my rates to be fair but there may be room for negotiating depending on the task. I do offer a 10% discount on labor for military, police, fire department, medical, and educational personnel.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been doing this since 2005 and started by remodeling my apartment. It was the first home I purchased and needed work. Thumbtack didn't exist back so if you did not "know a guy or gal" then you were having to hire a contractor to do it. My apartment was not very big and I figured I could give it a shot myself and if I could not do it then I would call a contractor. I have many a lot of mistakes on my own houses, mistakes that I won't make with yours. If it is something I have not before I will practice on my house before I go to yours.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Please be as descriptive as possible when posting your job. When it is very vague you put yourself at risk to wasting time because the pro will need to arrive, assess, re-quote, obtain materials/tools, and then begin working. That can add up to a couple of hours. It could potentially leave you with a much higher estimate that you may not be willing to pay and canceling with that pro, losing any time you took off from work or other activities.
