"Hi! My name is Rahni. I have been in the beauty industry and a freelance makeup artist for more than 20 years. I have always had a passion for art. As a child, I always loved drawing, coloring and painting. As I became a teenager and discovered makeup, I was immediately obsessed! I did my friends make up for proms while in highschool and started working at a beauty supply store. While working there, I would get compliments on my makeup all the time. One day, a bride-to-be walked in and after helping her a little, she asked if I would be interested in doing her makeup for her wedding. I was 17 years old and felt so honored to be part of the bride’s special day. Making that woman feel so beautiful was so empowering. After that, all I wanted to do, was to put makeup on people. I decided to apply at Macys and I started working for Lancôme right away. With their trainings, and experience at the counter, I was able to learn new techniques and really polish up my makeup skills. When MAC came to Macy’s, I was recruited right away from Lancôme and became a MAC girl. I pay really close attention to detail and specialize in blending shadows. I can do a beautiful natural glow look to a glamorous and bold smokey look. I use all top of the line cosmetics. Mostly MAC, MELT Cosmetics, and Lancôme for shadows, pigments and lips. I use Graftobian and Makeup Forever for foundations and concealers. My full makeovers include strip lash application. I am also certified in doing Lash Extensions. I pride my self on being a great listener and therefore being able to satisfy my clients needs. I am looking forward to hearing from you!"

"We specialize in making our brides look and feel their best on their big day. We have been doing henna for parties and events for 10 years. Our expertise is in designing exquisite and personalized henna designs. We develop our henna in-house with 100% pure and organic henna powder and aromatherapy grade essential oils which guarantees the deepest mehndi color. We always aim to provide you with the highest value possible in our henna services. History Established in 2012 Henna has always been a fascinating medium of art and expression to me and ever since I was a child I loved drawing with henna on myself and everyone around me. As my passion and expertise has grown I have been able to bring in some elements of sustainability and decided to create a brand that has a positive impact on the environment. I love the organic and natural origins of henna and wish to sustain that in the products I use, unlike the chemical laden products found in the main stream market. It takes years of practice and training to become a seasoned and experienced henna artist who has perfected their henna in color quality while avoiding dyes and chemicals. I wish to bring that to you as a henna artist. My love for nature and yearning for art has brought me to this wonderful ancient art form. This natural art medium is so fascinating to me, and my mission is to preserve its pure nature. I believe true beauty will cause no harm to its recipients and the environment but brings only benefit. This is what I wish to bring to the world."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

  • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
  • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.
