"Aikido of Alamo has enriched my life in many ways. I am becoming stronger physically and as a person. I have learned that the physical practice of non resistance/ harmony ( while holding your ground) in Aikido can be applied to everyday interactions with people outside the Dojo. Aikido teaches us how to interact without creating resistance.
Aikido of Alamo is also a nurturing community where we help each other grow and devlop our Practice of Aikido. I have always felt a great deal of support learning Aikido at Aikido of Alamo. Scott Berg, the Sensei, is great about giving encouraging feedback as well as reminding me about the things I need to work on..
Scott is a gifted teacher. After only 2 sessions, he identified what I needed to focus on in my Aikido training. Scott has a goal and a plan for each student... and he works with each student individually to help them improve . Many of the Black Belts have been with Scott for years.
Aikido of Alamo emphsizes safety -- preventing injury: The more experienced students ( more in control) are matched with the beginners. In nearly every class, there is a safety discussion. At time, students need reminders that Aikido is not about dominating or socking it to someone, it is more about cooperation and being appropriate based on who you are training with. We have a couple of students over 60 ( me included) with various physical requirements, that can learn and practice aikido in a way that is comfortable for them.
Our Dojo follows many standard protocals while being somewhat relaxed. I have fun learning Akido. In addition, I truly value the comraderie with other students. Scott fosters a commnity amongst his students-- we go to coffee after class and we support each other when we train.
I highly recommend Aikido of Alamo!
