Introduction: In terms of teaching Piano, I am a teacher of Musicianship (Sight Singing and Sight Reading abilities). I have a natural tendency to lean toward teaching the reading of sheet music. I have a fun and simple way I start with an educational goal and and break it down into easily manageable parts. I.e. Sight Reading: the ability to know how to read and play music that the musician has not seen before. Break it down into understanding all of the bits of information in the sheet music: Signatures; Key & Time, Tempo, Rhythm & Road Map, Accidentals and Did you miss anything? -Dynamics -Phrasing -Key Changes, etc. The best part of my job is when a student "gets it". When s/he is able to do and apply what s/he has learned to his/her own work. Basically, a student-Musician takes lessons to get challenged, learn and grow, then in School Band or Orchestra, s/he gets assessed. I live in El Cerrito, CA 94530.

Singing Lessons

I love working with Sterling Music!!!! He is willing to do anything that I want to work on and has even started to teach me music theory because I was wondering about it. He puts in extra work when he doesn’t need to and it’s been an amazing experience to work with him.

Singing Lessons

It was a good experience. Sterling was very helpful in helping Keli'i find his vocal range and getting on pitch. He shared his knowledge of techniques and tricks on how to find Keli'i's voice. Sterling is more fast paced if you're a beginner and his background is more in choir/ensemble work as opposed to musical theatre. Overall, good experience!

Singing Lessons

Scott gave a free intro in-home lesson. We then decided to do a Skype lesson. My daughter is learning a lot.

Singing Lessons

So far, I have not one issue. All the delays have been my fault. However the instructor has been very patient with me.

Trombone Lessons (for children or teenagers)

Scott was prompt, prepared, patient, and very knowledgeable. He gave my child a new appreciation of his instrument, its care, and its capabilities in a very positive way. Update as of 4-2018: We mutually concluded our work together due to a scheduling conflict that came up, but throughout the lesson times we accomplished Scott continued to show professionalism and shared a great deal of knowledge and enthusiasm with my child, who has special needs. I appreciated that Scott had a unique approach and flexibility to adapt what he taught to the level that the individual is at. He even provided positive reinforcement by composing a duet for my child!
