We met Steve last year during a home tour in Fallbrook, where Steve had designed a wonderful succulent yard at a beautiful estate. We fell in love with the place, and we asked Steve to help us with our much smaller yard in Carmel Mountain Ranch. we were ripping out most of our old landscaping (grass, bushes and some trees) and bringing in succulents and boulders. Steve has a great design sense, and made many suggestions for us as to the types and numbers of plants we should consider and where everything would go. We made some trips to Waterwise Botanicals in Escondido to see all the varieties he was considering and gave him our preferences. The greatest thing about working with Steve, however, was his responsiveness and his desire to involve us in the process. When the job started (LandscapeOne from Fallbrook was our contractor), Steve brought many, many plants and placed them around the property for us to get a feel for how the final result would look. We would then talk with Steve and together arrive at a "look" that we were happy with. And he truly is a master designer! We loved his choices and his placement of the succulents. The end result surpassed all our expectations! Recently, we got Steve's help again to replace an area of rose bushes with more succulents and boulders. The end result again was spectacular! We'd be pleased to talk with anyone about our working experience with Steve McDearmon and show the results in our yard.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I can give a better estimate as to the cost of the project after I have looked at it. Each project has different needs and circumstances that can effect the cost of that particular project.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I received my degree in Environmental Horticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I went to work for a large, commercial landscape company in San Diego County. I worked my way up from laborer to account manager. I worked for the for 6 years. After this I went to work for a well-known nursery that focused on drought tolerant plant materials. I designed landscapes for them for 7 years until I went off on my own. actually, now that I am on my own I still design projects for them, just as an independent designer.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently helped a customer transform their standard neighborhood front yard to a succulent garden that is just about magazine ready. They also told me that their water bill is down more than 50%. They recently told me that they spend more time looking at their garden than they do maintaining it.
