We just hired Safe Moving for our long distance move from CA to TX. We were very impressed that Brandon drove in from Sacramento to Santa Clara to meet with us at our convenience. We liked the fact that the same people that load will also drive our furnishings on an exclusive truck and unload us at our destination on the exact date of our choosing. No need to compromise our move, it seems as easy as "wishing".

Larro’s Moving did my recent long distance move from the Bay Area to Sacramento. The crew was phenomenal. I never once felt like they weren’t doing their “best work” or slacking off. We had a really long day and throughout it all the team was professional, courteous, careful with our belongings and super helpful with our last minute move. Thank you Jose, Rudy and Ricardo!

I highly recommend using Albion Moving and Storage! Steve and Joe were great movers. They were on time, quick, and knowledgable about the best way to move / pack our furniture. Our move was particularly difficult given the location (3rd floor apartment and far from storage location) and they were still able to complete the move in their estimated / quoted time with ease. Would definitely use them again in the future!

Last minute job request after I broke a toe. I've moved 22 times in the last 18 years including 5 international moves. For this job I needed help to move boxes from 1st floor to garage and then pack them into minivan. Sounds simple, but some movers clearly don't spend enough time playing tetris. Mike and Morgan worked hard to fit as much crap as they could into my minivan. You get it, when you just want to drive some stuff to the next place.. so you don't need it mega bubble wrapped but you still don't want it break. Not to be sexist but as woman who has moved so many frickin' times, having Morgan on the job, she understood and oversaw the items that were important to me.

Drew and his crew arrived in time. I live on the 3rd floor and have an elevator, but of course on the day of the move it was out of order (first time in 5 years). His team was professional and continued the job using the stairs. I truly appreciated the flexibility, hard work and dedication. It made my long distance move less stressful.

People who represented this company were personable and informative for the most part when I spoke with them on the phone. They were flexible as to the timing of the move, which was not a big job so had to be added to other shipments or loads. Items were delivered a bit earlier than the estimated date, which was good in our case. This was a long distance move and given it was a fairly small load, I think it took a few days to get an estimate of time of arrival, but they did get it to us in advance and arrived when they said they would.

Movers were 1.5 hours late, and I had to call a few times to verify they were coming. Once they did show up, they were efficient and they worked hard. Only thing is that they demanded 30$ tip for each mover (so extra 90 for 3 movers.) I would recommend them to a friend since they did a very nice job wrapping all furniture and did not break anything or scratch anything.

James and Rick are truly the best in the business. If you are looking to move long distance or local, Sac Elite Moving is the one to hire. Did a move 650miles for a 2 BR 2BA apt with Pianos, TVs, Antiques, plus a 10x10 storage and I am happy to say that James and Rick did a tremendous job loading, keeping things nice and tight in the truck, and unloading as well. Would recommend them if you are looking for movers who are respectful, honest, fair, basically who will get the job done! Two thumbs up! - Harold

I am sorry this is a late review. I moved in November 2014, and Jerome and the Old West Moving crew were the answer to my prayers. They arrived early, and immediately started moving my items (from a house to a smaller apartment upstairs). This was my first time using professional movers, so I was a little apprehensive. I was worried due to the amount of furniture I had, and the time it would take (to avoid getting rained on). Old West moved me and it started to sprinkle right after we were done. I have passed out their business cards to anyone looking for a professional mover, and if I ever need to move again, this will be the first place I call. Thank you Jerome and team!!!

I used Mulea at Bayside Moving and was extremely impressed. Having used multiple movers throughout the years, I had tempered expectations. However, this was the best moving experience I ever had. My job had a tight timetable so I built in a large buffer into my bid. Not only did Bayside come on time, they were early by 10 minutes! Their communication was supurb and texted the day before and also called before arriving. The driver worked fast and was really friendly throughout the move. They are a local Oakland based firm and it felt good to support a small business owner. I can't say enough nice things about this experience and have already forwarded their info to other friends moving into the city. You can reach out to me if you want to chat about my experience.

Packing was excellent with no damages. Arrival for pickup and delivery as agreed to. Communication was clear and Pat was very responsive with questions about the moving process. He handled our furniture and possessions with great care for our three bedroom home with stairs. We were very pleased to work with Pat on the long distance move from the SF Bay Area to Phoenix!

Great service. Scheduling my move was easy, Tim provided all necessary information and was courteous and professional throughout the conversation. On the moving day, two movers came on time, they called me before arriving too. It took them 1.5 hours to load my studio apartment and another hour to unload everything at my new apartment. They disassembled and put together my bed and dining table and blanket wrapped ALL of my furniture. Will definitely recommend to a friend.

Ivan Hernandez did an amazing job with my move recently. Ivan was very professional and was very careful with my stuff. He showed up on time with his crew and they moved at lightning speed. All the crew were very professional, careful, kind and respectful. All in all, I hate to move and havn't had to for a long time. I always think about movers slamming my stuff around, BUT not this crew. Ivan and co.did a stand up job and we even had a laugh or two. I hope i don't have to move again, but if I did, or if I was you, I would hire Ivan without a doubt.

Cherish Moving did a fantastic job moving our things without incident. We had a long distance move so were hesitant to use them instead of a national moving company. This was much better! They were on time and the move out/move in job went well. They are fully certified and insured and we will definitely use them again. Emily and Sergio were fantastic to work with, very responsive and helped us out with everything. I recommend them for either an interstate or intrastate move!

Paul and Katelyn managed all of our requirements with timely responses and quality service, at a price far better than the other quotes we received. They even dealt with an unexpected snowstorm without missing their delivery time. We would highly recommend Paul and his company for any long distance move.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
