Great company to work with. Eddie, the tech called me 30 minutes before arrival and was right on time. Once arrived, he was very professional and courteous. We had carpet cleaning and tile and grout cleaning done. The tile took extra time but Eddie handled it. He even did an extra rug for us. No upsell, no BS, just great customer service. Would highly recommend.

After being stood up by another carpet cleaning company, I was in a real time crunch to get the rug ready to move in. After explaining this to Kevin from So Cal Eco Cleaning, he graciously fit me into his weekend plans the following day. He was professional, friendly, and did a great job on the rug. The thing I have to say that I liked the most about Kevin was his honesty. He was upfront about the cost and did not try to haggle prices; something I have experienced in the past with different carpet cleaners (most would not give me a quote until they saw the area). Kevin's price was set regardless of type of rug or stain, and I appreciated knowing what I would be paying when hiring Kevin. I would most definitely recommend him and his services to my friends and family.

WOW! The team from Blue Rooster worked so incredibly hard and did an amazing job. I kept my expectations low, as the dirt in the grout had been there so long (from the previous homeowner) I actually thought the color was grey!!! When they were finished and I saw how beautiful my kitchen floors looked - well, I was floored! Their hard work was over the top and I am incredibly happy. I will refer them to anyone who needs their services!

We decided to hire Pro Cleaning Services to clean our tile and grout. We just moved back into our home, it had been a rental for 7 years and the grout was almost black, should have been light sand color. We met Hector and he assured us he would get the job done and his price was good. He came on time and worked hard and efficiently. He had our grout and tile clean. He was very personable and nice to do business with! He is a keeper, highly recommend his services!

I use to work for Ann, Sullivan's deep cleaning, and still currently work with her from time to time. Ann trained me in many different areas of the cleaning industry, she educated me in all surfaces and how to properly clean them and what cleaners to use. From Ann's training I moved forward to start my own company, without her help and knowledge I would not be where I am today! She is friendly, dependable and excellent at what she does. She can help you in so many areas of your home! You won't regret working with Sullivan's deep cleaning!

They we courteous, on time, hard working, and thorough. Due to my grout consistency, a residue was left and they came back the next day and scrubbed it clean....taking as much if not more time than the first cleaning!!! They made sure I was pleased with the results before leaving. I would recommend their service!

Celine did a FABULOUS job! She arrived early. She was very thorough and detailed. I’ve had cleaners in the past that I have paid only to home and had to clean areas that they missed. Not Celine. Everything done right the first time. I would love to use her again sometime. Thank you Celine!

This is my first time ever hiring a cleaning service and was very happy with my experience with Maid 2 shine. I was having a difficult time finding any agency until reaching out to them through phone. The booking experience was straight-forward and simple--even changing the date of my cleaning when something came up unexpectedly at work. christeena was wonderful--incredibly polite and professional--she was right on time and even checked in beforehand to let me know she was on her way and what supplies to bring. She did a deep clean of the apartment and it was sparkling after...I think it's actually cleaner than I've ever been able to get it. Would definitely use Maid 2 Shine again;)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
