We needed help with our 4 month old English bulldog. She came in the same day we made contact and gave us great tips and pointers from food, vets, and training. She was really patient, kind and professional. She knew what she was talking about and is perfect if you are looking for a local dog trainer. Thus far we have met just once but I highly recommend her and we plan on having her back to our home for additional training.

Miki is a great, trustworthy, and reliable pet sitter and walker. She handles my large 3 dogs and cat with ease and has been their "nanny" many times over the years. From walking, overnights to even vet visits, she ensures my dogs and cat are well taken care of. Highly recommend her services, and make sure you ask her for her famous pet treats too, baked from her home!

I have a GSD with a serious case of separation anxiety. We got pet walkers to help and Jessie was one of them. Jessie was not afraid, took control, and my dog loves her. Jessie is prompt, will let you know if she notices anything wrong, and will make suggestions on food/training if you need help. She goes above and beyond - she helped search for my dog when sable escaped the vet/boarding kennel facility on her own time. I highly recommend Jessie's walking and overnight pet sitting.

We have owned multiple Golden Retrievers over several decades. Currently our pet is Patrick and when we got him at age 4 months we decided to use a professional trainer for the 1st time. We were referred to Richard by our Vet. He trained Patrick in our home and yard with us participating so the dog follows our commands (not just Richard's). After several sessions at our home, we boarded Patrick at Richard's and he always re-enforces the training at his home. Patrick is now 10 years old and he loves Richard. His favorite day is when he sees Richard's van pull into our driveway to pick him up for a weekend of boarding! Richard is honest and 100% reliable. He is always on time and we feel his pricing is very fair. We have referred Richard to our daughter and her family and he has trained several dogs for her with similar satisfaction. Richard is a pleasure to work with and we recommend him without hesitation. John G.

We have had Rachel as our pet sitter for about 2 years. We found out about Rachel from the vet's office where she used to work. The fact that she is a vet tech gives us peace of mind while we are away. She is very kind with animals and you can tell she really loves them. We have multiple dogs and finding someone who can handle them was very important. We also had a dog that was not always nice. But Rachel was able to work well with her. We recently had a baby and she was able to come feed the dogs with a short notice when we were at the hospital. She is very caring and wonderful. We recommend her to anyone who is looking for someone to trust their pets with while they are away.

I am very, very particular about who watches my dog Jack or enters my home and with Angela I know that he is safe! She will even text me after she's left and locked the door, double checked everything and made sure that he has playtime... my dog Loves her! Another bonus is that she is a very experienced vet tech so if something was to happen, she'd know what to do. She loves all animals and it shows! I highly recommend Angela! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Colby is clearly an animal lover and my dog and cat seemed to like him, as well. He is mature, dependable, experienced and his mother is a Vet Tech if an emergency arises. He is my "go-to" pet sitter.

I have been going to Ufuria for play care, grooming, and boarding. I have had only positive experiences. My dog LOVES going there even to be groomed. Soo, Irwin and the entire staff have always been professional and caring. I am amazed how they remember not only all the dogs names that walk in the door; but even the owners. I went on a recent vacation and only went because I knew I could trust the staff at Ufuria to treat my Bella like a family member. They even posted her on Facebook and answered my Emails to keep me updated on her status so I could relax and enjoy my trip. Soo would never turn away any reasonable client; she cares too much about the pets that enter her doors.

Nancy is a very kind and professional working lady. She comes full of experience and enthusiasm to back up her enormous skill set. I have contracted for Nancy's services on a few occasions now, and, at first I thought that she was too good to be true, but she is the real deal. In the housekeeping department, Nancy shines just like her work does. She is not afraid to get a little dirty to get the job done. She is zealous in her cleaning, and leaves no shelf undusted. Whatever you ask her to do, she is meticulous, and pays attention to every little detail. All of the above goes for her pet care services as well. Nancy gives my own dog the same love and attention that she gives her own. She is a true animal lover; she loves all animals. Nancy helped me with dog walking when I was injured and could not walk him myself. My dog really loved Nancy too, as he greeted her with a kind, greeting bark, rather than a harsh stranger bark the next time she came to visit my home. She was also able to accompany me to the vet recently, and it was such a help having her there to comfort my dog; she made the trip quite pleasant, when usually it is such an ordeal. As for home or pet sitting, I entrusted my apartment with her care while I was away for 10 days. The amount that she charged me for these two services -- home sitting and pet sitting -- was worth every penny. While I was away, I knew that I had someone who I could call when I needed to check on my home and my dog. Although I knew both were in good hands, it was such a relief that I could call and know that everything was okay with my dog and apartment back home. My latest project -- reorganizing my home office -- went smoothly, thanks to Nancy's help. She assisted me with writing the file folder labels, as I have Parkinsn's and cannot hand write them myself. She also assisted me by reassempling my desk area into a more productive work space. Then, she gave me some great ideas and assistance with getting all of my things organized. Overall, I would say that I think Nancy could do almost anything, domestic, animal, or business related. If you have a pet, home, or project that you need help with, I recommend you give her the opportunity to win you over too. :-) You won't be disappointed, and I am certain that whatever you work with her on, you will be happier that Nancy helped you. ~JAD

Albert was was very responsive and very fast to come over and help train my puppy Charlie. He did a great job and made sure to stay the full time he stated and gave us lots of details on how to continue training our puppy. He also followed up to make sure we are continuing the training he showed us. Also he was a heck of a great deal! At only $30 one visit he was more than 1/3 of the price other competitors charge! He gives very thoughtful advice and is a very kind and trustable person. I would highly recommend this very experienced vet to anyone looking for help training their puppy and will be calling him again if ever needed!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

    • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
    • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
    • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
    • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
    • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
    • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
