We highly recommend Mike Garner for pre-marital counseling and officiating weddings. In our pre-marital counseling his goal was to not only guide us through the necessary conversations every couple should have before marrying, but to gently challenge us with life skills of what a marriage should look like. This was the key to our marriage success. We will celebrated 20 years this July. We are so thankful for the extra care and support he gave with us. I am positive with out the love and commitment he dedicated to us during the counseling sessions and ultimately 20 years of friendship we wouldn't be together this long. If you are looking for someone who is devoted 100 percent and is not afraid to be honest with you, Pastor Mike it the ONE!

Maureen worked with me following the birth of my second child, dealing initially with post partum issues and then with a broader range of issues related to marriage, family relationships, and parenting struggles, and attitudes toward self-care. I have been very happy with our sessions because overtime I have felt them to be very productive. Maureen listens well, and seems to digest and then provide very useful, practical, concrete ideas and steps to take to deal with real situations as they arise. She also helps me work through more general attitudes and ideas regarding challenges in my life.

I am collaborative, and I care deeply about my clients. I am creative, and I am first and foremost interested in offering relief. Well-being is something I believe should be available today, not ten years down the line. My clients have told me that while they appreciate my deep empathy, they also value my analytical ability to help them make connections and offer fresh perspectives. They have expressed relief at finding our sessions filled with humor and a light, gentle inquisitive approach. I offer individual, couples and family sessions. My approach to therapy emphasizes self-knowledge, empowerment and insight helping move towards a more integral, meaningful and gratifying life. It is with passion and kindness that I witness the healing transformation a person goes through in the therapeutic relationship. Originally from Brazil, I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese, working with clients who speak these languages. Three theories permeate my work: the Integral theory of Ken Wilber, Psychodynamic theory, and Hakomi. I integrate into the analysis the physical, mental, emotional and social parts of the self (Integral) in a mindfulness-based, body-inclusive and experiential perspective (Hakomi). With 14 years of experience, one of my strengths is being able to help people communicate when faced with misunderstandings. I have helped thousands of couples to learn to listen and speak in a way that entails respect and mutual understanding. Also with families, I have worked with victims of crime, immigrants, multicultural; helping these families slow down intense emotional turmoil and set directions through common goals. Recently, I am developing a life-coaching career -- out of these many years of experience as psychotherapist, I have come to see many individuals that could certainly benefit of a more targeted, short-term help -- towards unfolding a new career path, a life vision, a new relationship, or even the betterment of successes already accomplished. I have a lot of fun and inspiration as I help these individuals reconnect with their inner truth.

I am a spiritual leader/teacher, a life architect, a leadership mentor, a relationship counselor, a professional mediator, a parenting coordinator and an author. I hold both a master's and doctorate in theological studies and religious theology with my minor in conflict resolution from Logos University in Jacksonville, Florida. I am an ongoing participant in the furthering education program of dispute resolution at The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. I have also completed California State accredited courses in mediation, divorce mediation and parenting coordination from The Northern California Mediation Center in Marin County, California. I am also an active member of The American Counseling Association. Those are just my degrees; really, I am just a straightforward, mouthy, impatient, and politically incorrect South Jersey boy who wakes up every morning to make the individual life in transition, the couple standing at the crossroads, or the shared family in unchartered waters feel like they have a chance -- that life can be about rewriting history, not repaying the past. B does not always have to come after A; some days it is the difference between the decisions for where we want to be versus the discovery that life has made it obvious where we can no longer stay. I work to reconcile, readjust, reevaluate, disrupt, navigate, negotiate, dislodge and stretch what brings you to your most effective self. I help change the rules that can facilitate the kind of life you want to live. I do this for soccer moms, single dads, and everyday people in conflict as well as rock stars, a list of professionals, CEOs and small business owners. Most of all, no one will ever know whom I do this for because aside from the raw strategical wisdom I give also comes the discretion and anonymity that I give. I don't have to name-drop to get clients or sound impressive at parties. There are no pictures of famous clients on my walls. I mean, what is change anyway? Change is not hard; trying to sell nonsense is hard. There is no being good at change; there is only refusing to not be good at being stuck, idle or inferior. The only hypocrisy humans ever live is the desire for things greater than the changes we are willing to make to get them. It is not a matter of can I or can't I but only a matter of will I or won't I? It is about changing participation with what is outdated, expired or disruptive. It is about giving my heart to something rather than just giving away my power. That means there is no struggle with change; the only struggle is with accepting what I can no longer do the same way in the same moments. It is when my sentences can begin with "I" instead of "they and you." I am not here to fix you; you don't need fixing anyway. You only need to be in the driver's seat of your own freedom. I don't do charity. I do capability. I am not after people with needs; I am after people with nothing to lose. I fight for the people who will fight for something bigger than just themselves. I do not ask questions like "What do you need?" I ask the question "What can you do?" I do not care what your beliefs are; I only want to know what you are willing to do to go outside of what has always been in order to live what is waiting to be. I am simply the person who speaks to your life path right now. -- JK
