We had a stuck back door that was driving us nuts and a couple of small projects around the house that needed a handy touch. They did a great job, were clean, polite and professional and we would hire them again in the future.
I hired Thanh to help me with making 2 doorways accessible for my dad who is new to using a wheelchair. Everything went really smoothly -- Thanh and I communicated via Thumbtack about the project needs, he gave me a fair price and he was super accommodating to my timeline. This was really important since I was trying to get a lot done during a short window while I was in town (1 week!). Most importantly was that he showed up when he said and did the job without a hitch; he was also a really nice guy and even helped me take away a screen door that I didn't have time and a truck to dispose. I couldn't spare any scheduling mishaps since I was flying into town to help my folks before dad was being released from the hospital. I'm really thankful that Thumbtack helped me find good folks like Thanh and for his work. I'll definitely call on him again and refer him to others.
T.J. is absolutely AMAZING!!! He fixed my front door, bathroom door, and a hole in my entryway wall! He’s extremely reasonable and I highly recommend him for any work you need around the house. 5 STARS ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Two years ago, in October 2013, I met Doug from Gillespie Doors. He came to my house, to install a new garage access door (the current one wouldnt withstand the weather elements) with a built-in doggy door. Having a construction background, I knew that it was very important to hire an experienced person when hanging doors. Doug instructed me to get the dog door that I wanted and he would put it in for me prior to him showing up. Doug was supposed to be at the house at 7 am, however, he arrived 15 minutes early (rarely in these days). He had the old jamb out and the new door fit in about 30 minutes. When it was completed, the door looked like it had been there for 40 years. Very professional install, thats what happens when you hire someone with a contractors license whose number is 742587 and has what I have come to learn is over 25 years, in California, installing doors. Last year, in December; I called on Doug again but with a very different problem. I hired a General Contractor (GC) to rehab my mother-in-law rental house. (The GC was to replace all interior, exterior and metal security doors. When I took my mother-in-law to look at the rehab progress we saw disturbing door hanging practices, such as exterior doors having been installed with spray foam and a few screws and the back, exterior door of which the contractor disturbingly bought and installed an out-swing door. When we followed up with the GC, the response was along the lines of we put in like for like. If you want it done different do it yourself. What happened to doing it correctly the first time?) With that said, I called Doug at Gillespie Doors and he moved around his schedule to get me in the next day. Upon arrival he noticed several items that were incorrect with the doors that my GC installed, and only a licensed door professional would be able to tell these issues: The entry door that the GC installed was placed over the old rotten oak sill, which Doug found was loose and the GC tried to fix it in place with expanding foam insulation. That did not work because, after Doug removed the poorly installed pre-hung unit, the oak sill literally fell out. While removing the pre-hung unit, Doug noticed that there were hardly any shims holding the frame in place, but instead the GC had screwed the door jamb in place (roughly), and then filled it in with foam insulation and without any shims so nothing was plumb or square. This then caused the entry door to rub on the floor when opened halfway, and would not allow for carpet or padding for that matter. On the rear door of the house, Doug found the GC installed that as poorly as the front door as it also had the expanding foam insulation and very few shims, but it was the WRONG door completely. The GC bought an out swinging door, and installed it backwards to swing in. If the GC would have left that in place, in Dougs estimation, it would have leaked like a sieve. Doug also noticed on this door that the installer had filled a gap in the rough opening with small pieces of 1 x 4 when a single piece was called for. Doug is a hard worker and knows his trade. Hanging doors is an art and from the examples above a GC shouldnt be screwing around hanging doors. Doug correctly installed my Entry Door along with the Rear Door. He also re-hung the security doors that my GC took off that never re-installed. Doug went so far above and beyond that he helped me fix an interior door that the GC never cut the bottom off to allow for carpet. I am totally satisfied with the workmanship from Doug. I will only be calling him to handle all of my door projects in the future.
Roger is a true professional and his performances are outstanding . Initially, l requested his service for installing a security light, while he was completing that job he performed other home improvements around the house . He has demonstrated enormous enthusiasm ,energy and willingness to take several tasks and responsibilities simultaneously . He is very honest, polite and courteous and a true gentleman which is an important criteria for me. Roger is a great person to work with. He is very detail oriented and his fees are very reasonable . I give him a high recommendation . I am looking forward to continue my collaboration with him and in fact I have already appointed him as my property manager.
Replacement of a glass in a door for a commercial front entry door.
Larry was very professional and I like the quality of his work, the value was an extra bonus. He installed outside lighting fixtures on my 3 exterior door, front door kick plate and other miscellaneous things around the house. The only reason I'm giving him 4 stars instead of 5 is due to him being late due to traffic. He will be back to remove and install a new security door. I will definitely call him again!
Chris did a great job installing my garage door. He even followed up a couple days later to make sure it was working well.
Derrick has set me up to get a screen door installed at 7am on Friday. He sent a message around 5:30am saying he wouldn't be able to make because his car broke down on the freeway and he asked if he could reschedule for Sat morning. I said that would be ok and we agreed 7am Sat morning. Sat morning rolls around at 7am and no one shows up. I waited until 9am and no one still showed up so I left to take care of some business. Derrick texts me around 12 and asked if his person did the door and if I was satisfied with the job. I texted Derrick back to say no one had showed up. Derrick then said he would be out there later to take care of your door. I arrived home at 5:30pm, at 6 I heard Derrick brining equipment out of his car getting ready to start working. Derrick stayed until about 8 working on my door making sure it was installed correctly with the locks he installed as well. He even had to take the security door down and move it because it wasn't closing properly. He didn't ask for extra for doing this but I gave it to him. I didn't have faith in Derrick showing up Sat evening at 1st but once he arrived his work was up to par and he made sure everything was done properly. We finally got a secure door on our back door thanks to Derrick. I will be using him in the future for other jobs. I recommend you use him for your jobs as well. Sincerely, Taurus Satisfied Customer
Angel was amazing! He came over in the afternoon and helped us with drywall, window work, door hinges, and painting. He did great work and was super fast. I highly recommend Angel and will be using him the future for our handyman needs!
Friendly and efficient. Fixed my shower door and toilet. Very happy with the work and will definitely be calling Ali again!
I had some work done on the French Doors, new frames around the doors and had them painted. I was very pleased with the work done. Connie
We recently had our home painted and wanted to add exterior coach lights to both sides of the garage door. We had several quotes for the job (using same materials) and Mike's quote was the most reasonable of them all. We set up an appointment for the job and Mike not only showed up on time but also called to let us know he was on his way (this is rare with most contractors/installers). He performed the work promptly and added a photo cell so the lights turn on at night and off in the morning by themselves. This exterior accent lighting was the finishing touch for our home improvement project which now also adds a bit more security to our dwelling. We were extremely happy with Mike's friendly service, highly recommend him and plan to use him again in the future. American Castles and Mike Tay are class acts!
Very pleased with George's work and will hire him again. Prompt communication, thorough in his work, reasonable rates. He hung an unfinished door for us including installing hardware & finishing/painting door.
Mark initially came to replace one door and at the end he ended doing several other things around the house that needed repair. Mark is very friendly, responsible and realiable. I would recommend Mark to anyone.
Contacted George with a list of projects I had in mind, but needed a price to see how much I could get done and what the costs would be. George came over to give me a quote and a breakdown of costs of each project and payment schedule, which I appreciated. We went ahead with the work. One of the bigger projects we had George and his team do was to knock down our existing patio and concrete and put up a new one. Old patio was 15' x 20' we did a new 15' x 40' patio. Very happy with the quality of work and the patio itself. Other projects include removing bulkhead and putting up new drywall, installing can lights, new roof, and putting up new doors. I was most impressed by two things - 1) the open communication between us, and 2) the professionalism and politeness from George and his workers. Even little hiccups were properly communicated and worked out. I will definitely be working with them again.
Paul was terrific and just what we needed for our job, and more! My husband and I wanted to do a relatively simple swap on the door to our storage unit, making it so it would swing out instead of in. I posted the job one evening and got a response from Paul by the time I woke up. He was incredibly responsive throughout, and the quality of his work is tremendous! He went the extra mile on adding security measures to our unit and doing all the finishing touches. And to top it off, he’s very friendly and trustworthy. A great guy to work with, we couldn’t be happier!
Mark did a great job on my screen door!
He arrived on time and was very thorough with his installation of my security door. I will be using his services again.
John was punctual, pleasant and easygoing. He was able to complete avariety of jobs including electrical and plumbing. He also fixed my front door lock. I highly recommend him and will use him again when other jobs arise
Only good things to say. Project: Crown and base board upstairs bedroom, landing and downstairs everything, 8 new can lights, new doors and ceiling scrape and refinish. Travis showed up always on time, the original quote was detailed and very reasonably priced. I was happy to see he managed the team on the project well with daily tasks. The best part of working with Travis was the finishing. His work was quality and exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.
