Denise is amazing! From the moment we first met, we knew we made the a great choice for our pups. We have two dogs, one is 5 and the other is 9 months. Denise is really hands on in her approach to dog training and we learned so much from our time with her. We are much more confident in teaching our dogs how to behave and they are much happier with the new rules we have set in place. Thanks Denise!!

Ron is the best dog trainer ever! His love for dogs shows in his gentle, calm, and effective training techniques. He trains dog owners just as much as their dogs, and he has successful results. Under Ron's tutelage, my shelter pit bull blossomed from a fearful, anxiety-filled dog into a dog with confidence and self-esteem. She has really come a long way, in large part thanks to Ron and his teachings. Ron is also the least expensive dog trainer I have encountered. His rates are reasonable, for such high-quality training.

Amazing! David was amazing with my dog. I had a dog who had several issues on top of not having any obedience. We tried other trainers before him and they couldn't help him. We finally found David and he did a wonderful job. He got our dog to stop lunging, barking, tearing up our things, helped us build a bond, and taught him obedience commands. I am very grateful for everything he's done.

Audrey scheduled us right away for a consultation to help with our food aggressive dog. Within one week using her training and tips any family member can pull our dogs food away with out getting biten or even a growl. Our German Shepard will now wait patiently in a calm "sit" position till we put his food back for him. Looking forward to more training!

I was in need of a pet sitter for four days. Yogita happened to be available to pet sit my dog in her home. She promptly replied to my request, which I greatly appreciated. We communicated via e-mails, which she kindly gave me a brief background of herself. I felt comfortable communicating with her, because she was professional, and overall a very warm and friendly person. I appreciated the fact that she asked questions regarding my dog, his habits, his personality, his likes, his dislikes and if he had any health issues. She really showed interest in taking care of him. I dropped off my dog at her home and he immediately took a liking to her. She informed me of outdoor activities that she had planned to do with my dog while in her care. Yogita kept in communication with me during the time that I was away out of town. This really made me feel at ease, knowing that I had left my pet with a responsible person. I am definitely going to keep Yogita Sharma as a future Pet sitter. She did a wonderful job in caring for my dog! I highly recommend her!

Denise was so attentive, thoughtful, and excellent with our animals! I felt very confident leaving my animals in her care while we were gone for a long weekend. My dog Dash has anxiety issues around new people, but she made him feel at ease! I also loved that she sent me photo updates each day to let me know how they were doing. Will definitely use her in the future! :)

I'm a person who loves dogs. I have had many dogs -- some were stolen but one walked back. When I was five, my favorite dog died. My walks are filled with fun, and I never get tired. I am in a 100-mile club.

About

I have worked with dogs at a young age. My father was a dog trainer. I have enough experience to comfortably say that if your dogs have slight behavior issues, then walking them daily is the first step and biggest step of getting rid of a dog's bad habit or attitude. Please contact me through text or phone call. The price to send a quote on this site is becoming expensive. I'll be happy to answer your questions through phone or text. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

About

Sea Wolff Dog School promotes respect and understanding of the dog through the education of dog owners. We provide low-cost group classes with emphasis on responsible dog ownership, leadership, and good dog manners. Private lessons and training packages are available. The packages are customized based on your needs and personalized by your preferences. Canine Good Citizen classes and tests are also offered. Most dogs will be able to pass the CGC test after one of Sea Wolff Dog School's basic classes! Basic dog training will bring your pet closer to the perfect dog you had in mind when you brought your puppy home. It will teach you to communicate with your dog in a way that creates the bond between you and your dog that both of you crave. Owning an obedient dog will make you a more responsible pet owner, and your dog a welcome member of your neighborhood. Training opens the door to all kinds of competitive venues -- i.e., agility, obedience, or rally. Maybe your dog could be a therapy dog to help children read and brighten the days of patients in nursing homes and hospitals. These types of activities are open to all breeds of dogs and mixed breeds. My name is Claudia Wolff. I am a member in good standing with the American Kennel Club and the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of Southern California. Being an AKC certified evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen and the Puppy S.T.A.R. program, I am committed to providing the most effective and convenient solutions for my clients' dog training needs. I avidly pursue ongoing continuing education and professional development by attending seminars and keeping current with industry literature. Sea Wolff Dog School puts clients first and is well respected and referred by local veterinarians and the town of Apple Valley and the city of Hesperia. The purpose of a training class is to teach the student the skill of communicating with another specie, a dog. Just like learning a foreign language, it is done systematically. The traditional obedience exercises are used as means to this end. They can be viewed as the rules of grammar, which then enable us to use words we have learned correctly. Once he has learned to communicate with his dog and now understands his dog's language, the student can resolve most any problems on his own. We teach dog obedience the right way.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

  • What type of training methods do you use?
  • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
  • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
