When my fiancee and I were in search of a pre-marital counselor, we didn't know what to expect. We just knew it was best practice to do pre-marital counseling, so we did. The minute we met with Kim for an intro session, she was a kind, comforting presence that was able to get both me and my partner to easily share - something rare for my partner. Throughout our time working with Kim, she helped us hone in on issues within our relationship while discovering things about ourselves - individually - that we didn't realize were negatively affecting us. What we loved most about Kim was that she didn't just talk us through every problem we were working to solve but provided us with tools that we will be able to use for years to come. In our sessions, Kim provided great counseling with a sincere intention to set our marriage off on a strong foundation of self-awareness and clear communication to build our relationship upon. Thank you, Kim, for all of your guidance and support!
A great experience. We recommend Krista to anyone who's looking for Marriage and Family Therapy services.
Listen really good about our problems. And gives good advice on how to moved forward in life about our marriage.
An unexpected death in the family upended a number of things in my life. I needed some guidance to get back on track to run my business and tackle the new personal challenges I was facing. I was working with another counselor for a few months but did not find much value in my sessions. My wife found Karim so I decided to try one session. Needless to say, I really enjoyed Karim's approach. Karim has acted like a guide to help me identify, process and work on my challenges. I enjoyed his help so much that I also paid to attend a couple of the workshops he hosts outside of regular hours from time to time. I highly recommend talking to Karim at least once and see how you feel. Chances are, you will want to work with him.
I accept family court referrals and have expereince in that arena. Additionally, I accept Blue Shilld and United Healthcare Insurance
When I started working with Shannon I was struggling with deep unhappiness and uncertainty about my life, as well as my relationships with the people in my life. I was skeptical of talking to anyone because of several prior bad experiences with counselors and psychiatrists. But I called anyway out of desperation and I'm very glad in retrospect that I did. Shannon helped me consciously identify things that are important to me and things I wanted to change. With Shannon I learned to proactively become aware of and eliminate negative, harmful, or just plain not useful patterns of thinking and instead treat myself using positive reinforcement. These changes seems small and simple but their impact is deep. I also benefited from her wise perspective on managing relationships with others. By using what I've worked on with Shannon, I feel more clear, capable, reflective, and self-aware. This in turn has helped me focus, enjoy my work, and improve how I view my relationships with my family and coworkers. I'm all around much happier and proud of myself. In working with Shannon, I was impressed by her kindness, her breadth of understanding, her proactive approach, and her focus on ensuring her clients improve in a quantifiable, verifiable way. I would and do recommend her to anyone looking for guidance through rough times, especially if you're looking for quick and concrete practices to implement to improve your life immediately.

Illana is a true blessing. My wife and I in were fortunate enough to have Illana join us in marriage in Lake Tahoe, CA. We had several meetings with Illana prior to the date, and each time she delved into the root of what marriage and togetherness meant to us. She incorporated our values, beliefs, and spirituality into the service, in a way we feel no one else could have. Illana was consistent, punctual, and professional in her planning and coordinating. She took the extra time to help us with the layout at the venue and did a wonderful job delegating at the rehearsal (which is not always an easy task, especially with young children). Illana has a constant smile, and is able communicate with people in a special way. We had so many people at our wedding that specifically complimented the ceremony. We feel this was greatly due to Illana's creativity and vision. Thank you Illana.
I work with people who are in crisis, women, men, adolescents, and children struggling against anxieties, panics, and/or self harm. I also work with people regarding parenting issues and family communication. I help people with healing through life adjustment struggles such as grieving the passing of a loved one, adjusting to the arrival of a newborn, and transitions into a new life path. I have over 20 years of specific experience in working with young adults.
I offer one-on-one career transition/outplacement counseling including the following: * Asset analysis/career and goals assessment * Resume writing and editing * One-on-one counseling * Personal marketing strategies * Job search work flow and process training * Career and personal networking training * Communications and self-presentation evaluations and enhancement coaching (interview coaching and preparation) * Follow-up and support throughout I have spent over 15 years as a senior executive recruiter in the Silicon Valley where I have counseled and coached literally thousands of candidates and executive-level clients through their own career challenges. My own career has taken me from blue collar in the early '80s to white collar sales and consulting in the late '80s, moving into business management in the early '90s, and business ownership in the late '90s. The latter part of my career has seen me transition from sales manager to managing partner to V.P. to C.O.O, and even co-found a company and ownership, where I have been a vendor to a number of Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco, Sun Microsystems, Wells Fargo, etc. Every stage is wrought with unknown factors which can be scary, but if you replace fear and uncertainty with enthusiasm about the possibilities, times of transition can be acknowledged as the greatest opportunities for growth, and forward progress on your own career. I now work with both individuals and corporate clients alike as a career transition counselor, helping others to move in a positive direction towards the next phase of their own careers. Call me, and let's work together to prepare you for the opportunities that lay before you. Mark Fort
Deep within each one of us is a vast intelligence that moves us toward wholeness. I am continually in awe of how effectively this guides the healing and awakening process once we learn how to listen to the dreams, feelings, body sensations, and life challenges that give clues as to where the healing wants to go next. My work as a therapist is to create a safe, supportive space for clients to open up, experience life as it is right now, and explore whatever is calling out for attention from within ourselves or from outer challenges. Often, we may need to make detours into past traumas that prevent a full surrender into the present. As old griefs, traumas, hurts, and losses are embraced and healed, inevitably, clients drop into the deepest grief of all: the abandonment of oneself. As this is grieved, then the unique expression of the essence of that person can be freed up to participate fully in life, to blossom like a flower. As French author Anais Nin wrote, The day will come when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." This work is empowering to my clients as they connect with a flow of healing and transformation from within themselves, and learn new tools for living more fully: tools that they can carry into their lives long after our time together has passed. I have been a psychotherapist for over 35 years. During that time, I have helped clients with a wide range of issues. I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client's individual needs; my clients and I work together to address their goals and concerns, whether they are current life challenges or longstanding issues. I specialize in working with grief. Over a lifetime, we will experience many losses, not just the loss of loved ones, but the loss of a marriage, health, a job, our dreams, or a child when he or she goes off to college. Each one of us will be called on at different times to face losses, but will we embrace it or shrink from it? Most of us shrink from a loss, thinking that if we just keep busy, we can close our hearts a little to protect ourselves from loss. However, it is ungrieved loss that takes a toll on our hearts and deadens us to life. We pay a price in terms of our vitality, happiness and health. I offer unique and effective strategies for grieving fully without feeling overwhelmed. This includes experiential exercises for exploring the ongoing inner relationship with a deceased loved one. I have a masters degree in counseling psychology from the University of Santa Clara and a license in the state of California (since 1976) as a marriage and family therapist. I am the author of two books on grief: Losing a Parent and The Infinite Thread: Healing Relationships Beyond Loss. I have taught at University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and John F. Kennedy University. I have trained in the following: * Grief work with Stephen Levine * Family therapy with Virginia Satir and John Krop * Art therapy with Janie Rhyne * Dream work with James Hillman, Alice Howell and Charles Ponce * Women's sexuality with Lonnie Barbach * Bioenergetics with Michael Conant and others at the Northern California Bioenergetic Institute My 35-year meditation practice (mostly Buddhist) has enriched and deepened my approach to psychotherapy; this has enabled me to bring compassion, humor, patience, spaciousness, and balance into the therapeutic relationship. My teachers include Stephen Levine, Jack Kornfield, Goenka, Ruth Denison, among many others. I consider it an honor and a privilege to work with clients in this journey of healing, transformation and self-discovery. What rich resources for coming into our wholeness lie within each one of us, just waiting to be tapped!
"Great Life Coach - Sherry is so real, not just spirtual but down to earth. She was my marriage counselor now my life coach, just talking to her makes me feel so much better. I use the five layers or sheaths called Koshas that Yoga believes the self comprises of. The physical body that most consider to be the self is only the most dense layer. Subtler than that is the energy or pranic layer. Then comes the emotional-mental layer also seen by some as colors corresponding to different feelings. The intellectual/intuitive or the wisdom layer is next, more subtle and more expansive than the prior three and encompassing them too. Finally the bliss layer is the most subtle of all and it encompasses all the other layers and extends over and beyond them.
Deciding on the right therapist is as critical as selecting the right physician to deal with your health. Others have chosen me as their couples therapist because I have the following: * Passion: My passion for supporting healthy relationships has led me to dedicate my practice to working with couples. You will not find a therapist who is more motivated to helping you and your partner. * Specialized couples training: I have undergone specialized couples training as part of my doctorate of clinical psychology ((PsyD) and master's in counseling psychology (MA). I am licensed as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT). * Powerful couples tools: I offer an array of powerful tools and exercises that are designed just for couples. These exercises help you improve communication, manage your anger, learn your love language, solve problems, become more effective parents, build trust, discover strengths, increase intimacy, and experience forgiveness. * Experience with the toughest issues: I create a safe healing environment to deal with extremely challenging situations such as a devastating affair, uncontrolled anger, sexual wounding, verbal or physical abuse, harsh co-parenting conflicts, high-intensity arguments, a painful divorce, and even the loss of a child. * Evidence-based practices: I use scientifically validated psychotherapy techniques for couples, which have been proven effective through 35 years of research with thousands of couples. * Biblically based foundation: I am affiliated with the Christian Counseling Center-San Jose. My therapeutic approach is consistent with and rooted in biblical principles; however, bringing your faith into therapy is completely your choice. My aim is to serve you as a trustworthy resource for professional care, whether you have a faith background or not. * Three decades of life experience: having been married for 30 years, my work with you is built upon decades of real-life experience, not just textbook knowledge. Working with a couples specialist gives you the best chance to heal your relationship, so you can feel safer, more trusted and more loved.
