FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although not consistent about it, I do try to read journals, papers, and other literature about mathematics. I am a long-time subscriber of California Educator, NEA Today and Scientific American magazines. Occasionally, I will start a subscription of the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) journal.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As mentioned earlier, I was asked to consider the teaching career after my retirement as a research microbiologist. I was presented this option because the administration and counseling department recognized the successes I was having with the students who attended my tutoring sessions. This was a vote of confidence for me. I was reluctant at first, but my wife thought it was a good way to get me out of the house (hehe). Just kidding. I pursued the career and actually loved it. I still love it!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I am strictly a math tutor. I particularly enjoy the subjects of algebra (pre-algebra, algebra 1, & algebra 2), geometry, and precalculus.
