Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 11 years and teaching music privately for three. I received my Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from San Diego State University in 2022, emphasizing in Classical Guitar. I first started taking private lessons myself in elementary school, for piano and voice. Music has always been a part of my life and education, from taking choir to general music courses.
I can teach beginner and intermediate levels for guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass. Every lesson is tailored to the individual student’s goals and style. However, I like to make sure each student learns all the fundamentals and receives a strong foundation that can be applied to any style or genre they want to learn.This can include rhythm exercises, scales, basic music theory, and more. For example I strongly emphasize the importance of rhythm and making sure students can play in time. I have experience playing and teaching classical, pop, rock, and folk.

I'm learning guitar as an adult and the lessons with Summer have been great. So far she has been very patient and kind, has a good eye and ear for what I need to improve on, and provides guidance for practice between sessions. She also is timely and communicates well.

I’ve been taking ukulele classes with Summer for just over a year. In that time, I’ve learned numerous chords and songs, as well as learning to read sheet music for the ukulele. Summer is an amazing piano instructor! She’s been super patient, friendly and supportive with my 8 yr old! My son is always looking forward to his lessons each week and it’s so lovely to see how enthusiastic he is about music.
